Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Would you guys mind keeping an eye out for me if I don't see you before this ride starts? Although we may be unfamiliar, I would rather not be a lone rider (obviously in case of mountain lion attacks).

and... so are we supposed to be there at 7 exactly, or what? I couldn't discern.

I just realized the ride goes by my grandma's old house on California (by the courthouse/jail), too bad she doesn't still live there - we could stop in for potato dumplings.

Dumplings or not, we'll look for you. Can you L it with us?

I have yet to discern who enjoys and/or benefits from it. It's a nice time to meet folks, perhaps. But most don't show up. So I guess it's time to meet maybe 25% (if you're lucky) of your kids' parents/guardians. Ho hum... I want more cash in my drum.

I would, but I'm coming from the south. The red line is always a possibility, but I might just get a lift there. Red line can be kind of shady - although it might happen anyway. I might just have to lock the bike to my body, somehow.

Parking should be easy around the Midway Plaisance - I've been there before - You basically park anywhere around the perimeter. The Plaisance is like Logan Square, huge long park with inside and outside parkways going through it. Even if we don't park superclose we can bike a few blocks to it. No biggie.

I'd be down for driving if you are - you have a bike rack I assume?

Oh yeah - the Midway Plaisance is in the middle of the University of Chicago, surrounded by it - the south side or at least Hyde Park isn't scary at all, don't believe the hype. You'd be surprised by how much it might seem a little like Lincoln Park in places.

I've considered moving to Hyde Park, it's beautiful there, great architecture and such.

What time do you want to roll?

I'll try to get some of my photos organized and posted. Nice to meet ya Ryan.

By the way, that photo of me, looks nothing like me.

It's an impersonation of Skitbra!:

haven't seen me yet.
I was sleeping off:
free artshow wine (unknown quantity)
4 beers
some large jack daniels and fountain beverage mixture (x2)

for not having a lot of alcohol in the past 4 weeks, I done good. But skitty done better. He drank free art show wine with me, and then rode a lot.
