Was going to, but spectated crit races on my way home instead of driving 25mi out of my way to ride the ride of silence.

I've ridden more ROS's than I care to remember.
Having been hit by cars 4 times I realize that someday the ride may be for me.
I think I would prefer it if everyone would meet at the park, dig a big hole in the ground, toss in a bunch of worn out bike parts, pour a PBR over the parts, toss the can in the hole, cover it up then ride to a bar and have a nice night.
Seems more permanent than a bunch of Fred's rolling around town not talking.
I know ROS is supposed to raise cycling awareness but people that don't ride have no idea what you are all doing on the road going 10mph, and since you are not supposed to talk it is kind of awkward to explain it to the rare motorists that ask.

the reason i asked if you did it fixed or not was more of a demographic one, as due to other threads many members have other bikes besides their fixed gears. I was the only one on the ride i was on that chose to ride fixed, although apparently some of the older roadies actually beast on fixed drivetrains quite often. It was just a weird experience not getting messed with by roadies for riding fixed as opposed to gears and wearing cut-offs and a t-shirt. one guy actually was impressed by it, or at least appeared to be. it was just a surreal / cool / but very solemn experience.

as to powers2b statement, riding so slow definitely made a lot of motorists angry here, however it was weird essentially doing a critical mass but being escorted by police while doing so. blowing lights with the long arm of the law enabling me to do so was kind of cool.

It was a great ride but I was a little disappointed with the distance this year. I did the one two years ago and it was at least 6 or 7 miles. It's a great cause and I was just happy to do it.

Yep, on the SS. The ride organizers had lots of spoke cards, with the reverse giving a brief explanation of why & for who we were riding for. They handed those out to any motorist they could reach.

And wonder of wonders, we only got 1 aggressive honk on a 12 mile route using main arterial roads.
