Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I always found it easier if I sat up straight and pedaled with even strokes. That and practice. Now I can eat, text, or switch songs on my ipod while riding. Although, I probably shouldn't do all that.

I've never been able to ride no-handed. Not on any bike I've owned. I think my butt is crooked and it throws the whole thing off.

hahah i think they just have better balance than me. my balance isnt the best but ill work on it. i mean i could do it on my roadbike but that was different.

i get thrown off when pedaling because im constantly moving instead of being still.
practice makes perfect! thanks for the fun post

Never been a problem for me.... it has to do with balance.... although having drops makes it easier as opposed to chopped short bars...

I'm just the opposite. I freak out if I'm on a freewheel bike and stop pedaling while riding no handed. Nothing ever happens, but it just feels weird at first.

Funnest thing to do while riding no hands - Taking off your T-shirt. You gotta be fast if you want to see where you're going.

I have only had trouble on a bmx since the bars are top heavy. Practice makes perfect.

Also, holy s---, Powers2b cracks me up talking crap and always ending with "enjoy"! Must have similar humor!

Me too. I was gonna tell him to ride down a hill.

Seriously, get your ass properly moving and you can just sit up and nothing alarming will happen. It's called steering trail

I also find it easier to ride with no hands on fixed instead of free. Something about not pedaling makes me feel like im going to lose balance, whereas when constantly pedaling I can create balance.

pedaling does make it easier, for me at least, but i dont see why coasting would create a problem

pedaling is def easier... lean back and get ur weight over ur back wheel, its more stable
or go just faster, that helps

Fork might be slightly bent; frame may not be centered; tires not the best for riding no hands; headset loose; wheel not true; body not centered on bike; or you just need to practice more.
