question about Superbe Pro cranks

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but this is the only section of bikeforums that I read:

Do any of you know whether a Suntour Superbe Pro crankset is supposed to be put on a Shimano BB or on a Campy BB? I'm getting different information from equally credible sources. My local bike store guy (who seems to really know his stuff) says that it fits on Shimano. Online (on the Rivendell website and others) it seems to imply that you need a Campy style BB, or a Phil Wood (yeah right $$$), or a special discontinued Superbe Pro one.

The issue is that I want the chainring to be close to my chainstays so that I can get a straight chainline without having my rear wheel spaced weirdly, which it is now. Any advice on this would be very very much appreciated (maybe someone has Superbe Pros).

According to Sheldon Brown's database at: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html A suntour superbe pro uses
a 111mm Campy BB.

it should work on either shimano or campy.

i have a sugino crank on a campy square tapered BB, and i've had my dura ace cranks on the campy spindle as well...the difference isn't large enough to make it too much of an issue.

if you wanted to have it set up so that there were no issues whatsoever, i'd try to get one of the suntour bbs. a shimano would be the next best thing though. one reason for the online sources seemingly saying that you'd need a campy-style BB is because campy is the only company who still uses square taper bottom brackets across the board in their components. shimano uses octalink for their upper-end road and track groups. so, the one that would fit your cranks the best is "campy-style," but it might not end up being campy brand. a shimano UN-52 bottom bracket is like, $30 or less from most places, and they come in a couple different lengths. phils come in just about every length, and have a few mm of adjustability. campy bottom brackets come in like, 102mm and 111mm for their road groups, if i recall correctly...i'm not sure what length their track cranks use.

bikeworksnyc still has suntour bottom brackets...if you have the money, i'd recommend getting one. shimano is probably the best way to go though, economically speaking.

I run Superbe Pro road cranks on my old Bianchi Pista with a generic, no name BB....which is most likely Shimano compatible. I don't remember the length.
