Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Do I have a death stem?

Recently bought an old Peugeot U0-8 which I converted to a fixed gear. After some research, I found that some AVA stems have been known to defective.

Should I replace it? EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize my pics would end up being so oversized.

Yea you sure have a death stem on your hands (don't believe me? just google images up "peugeot death stem" ; replace it with a 1 inch threaded stem with 24 inch clamp and you'll be set.
