I don't wear a helmet, but have thought about getting one. Then I remember I don't ride a bike to where my actions would ever necessitate needing one. Yeah I know, it's the cars out there and their drivers. But I factored them into the equation too. I still don't ride to where I'd need one and if the driver, drunk or sober were to hit me, I doubt the helmet is going to do anything for me anyway ?

Around here, it seems you are either one or the other and not in between ? That is, in a bike mishap that either nothing happens to you physically beyond road rash and your bike suffering damage or there's an article and obituary written up in the paper/on-line for you ? About a week ago, I saw a fellow with road rash, he fell off his bike on a sidewalk, a mystery crash. I figure he hit a sandy patch as he was trying to turn to fast for it and went down hard ? I guess a helmet protects in those kind of accidents, the self inflicted ones ?

When shaking something down and it's restricted to a driveway test, I don't. All other occasions though, the helmet is on.

kcirick 07-25-10 07:39 PM

I wear one because my girlfriend tells me to

lilt 07-25-10 08:19 PM

99% of the time - helmet is on.

cg1985 07-25-10 09:12 PM

I go through spurts of stupidity where I don't wear a helmet. But mostly I wear one, so I chose, 'when I remember it'

xkillemallx16 07-25-10 09:25 PM

errands i guess are "commutes"? i dont ride one on errands. i commute with one though.

gman26 07-25-10 09:27 PM

Go to the roadie forums and ask how many people have had their lives saved because they were hit by a car but were wearing a helmet.

I don't think any living creature will be able to withstand the intense radiation that Scrod emits when he put on a helmet.

Deshi 07-25-10 09:56 PM

I dont own a helmet at the moment.

Squirrelli 07-25-10 09:59 PM

Aren't you going to be riding at the velodrome soon?

Deshi 07-25-10 10:02 PM

thats the plan. I will get a helmet by that time. I will have to.

xkillemallx16 07-25-10 10:07 PM

using the pinarello i assume?

i feel a urge to try track racing... but all my fixed's are road oriented. felt tk2 frame is next - they go on the sfbay craigslist for 400 a piece.

ive been wanting to buy a langster too - maybe ill try track with that. nothing professional, so it should do fine.

Leukybear 07-25-10 10:07 PM

wtf is a helmet? :roflmao:

Deshi 07-25-10 10:11 PM

Its either the Pinarello or a more slack Pake. I choose the Pinarello...

sknoslo 07-25-10 10:20 PM

This thread has me certain that I'm going to die very soon.. Perhaps a good time to invest in a helmet..

leed 07-25-10 11:14 PM

I wear a helmet now.. Because cars don't like me, and I don't like them.

JesusBananas 07-25-10 11:35 PM

Always and without question. I have both experienced and witnessed times when that one inch of styrofoam prevented something much worse from happening.

Also, I would guess that people who ride brakeless are less likely to wear helmets . . .

fuji86 07-26-10 12:13 AM

Scrodzilla on Sundays in the Fall !

Or something like that, only on a bike ?

joker8baller 07-26-10 12:25 AM

Only on long rides, and not my commute to school. I'd wager over 98% off students at the UC Davis campus do not wear helmets on their commutes to school.

Squirrelli 07-26-10 12:34 AM

Have anyone seen a cyclist with a football helmet?
I've seen batting helmets and hockey helmets though.

Isn't it mandatory in Canuckistan than you wear a hockey helmet all the time? Don't want to be hit in the head with one of those errant hockey pucks.

NinetiesKid 07-26-10 10:00 AM

I just shellac my brain case up with a few layers of frame saver.

I feel it preserves the minimalist look of my fixie and if it can save frames, it must save brains as well.
