I really would like to get involved in an intro class at a velodrome. It has been something I have been thinking about and wanting to do for quite awhile now. I just don't know any Velodromes close by..
Columbus, ohio?? |

I would love to learn to ride in the track, unfortunately Utah doesn't have one anywhere (at least not that I know of)... which is funny because cycling has taken off quite a bit in Salt Lake

Closest velodrome to me is over 4 hours away and it's a converted race racecar track with 4-8degrees of banking...
|
Yeah, that track is 7 miles from me and it took me, what, 10 years to go there? I've been mountain biking there for 20 years, but now that I have ridden the track, suddenly my mountain bike doesn't get much use...

As a birthday present, my wife gave me a spousal hall pass to make the 5 hour round trip to Hellyer, but I haven't been able to cash it in. I really need to get there. It looks like tons of fun.

Encino Velodrome is having some racing this saturday.. i'm planning to go watch. It'll be my first time, so we'll see how it goes.
|
Hmmm. I may have to give this "Track bicycling" a try.
|
|
I just got off the track with TejanoTrackie. Nice morning workout before races this weekend.

unless you're racing, track riding is extremely boring IMO

but in all seriousness, if I'm riding or training, I would rather do it on the road where there is: A. A view to look at B. Varying terrain C. Well, those are pretty much my only two reasons...but I think they're enough. Granted, track racing is much more fun than road racing or even crit racing... |
To all the Sacramento folks, there is an effort underway to get one built here. If you want more info or to help stop in and talk to Dean at Rex's bike shop. He is heading up the effort.

I went to the new velodrome they built here in my hometown for the 2010 Central American Games to catch some races, but when I got there they said they moved up the races before their scheduled times to avoid the rain and they were all over. (sweet run-on sentence, breh!)
Sonofa*****es. Thanks for not sending out a notice. At least it was a 5 minute drive from where the folks live. I hope they keep that velodrome and don't tear it down. I want to try it out next time I come visit. |

Oh, man. This image is so awesome. Thanks for making/finding that!

Pedaling - I go to the indoor velodrome here to put in laps when it's pissing rain or freezing cold out. Understand that at no point have I had the place to myself and there is ALWAYS a race going on even in practice.
Also there is nothing wrong with racing yourself. Working on your wobble, stroke etc. Nothing beats riding ont eh street for me but the velodrome has a great place in my life. I do NOT race yet and wonder if I ever would. My fitness is finally there but I also do not work well with racing personalities usually. |

OOH - San Jose is 2 1/2 hours away, I misspoke. I should know that, I used to drive there a few times a week for work!
Anyway, carry on. And oh man, if Sac opens a velodrome, I'm there like every day... |

Yep, reading too fast at midnight with 18 ounces of steak in me.

Yeah, but I was -450 for calories on the day and it was really, really good steak. I ride a lot and I do have to eat protein at some point.

If you and caloso want to carpool, and can get to Davis, I can take like one more person there... and maybe a bike. I drive a pretty small car (Civic coupe) but I head to Hellyer on Sat for their beginner sessions...

I know Team Beer (my team) makes a group run to Hellyer every now and then. I haven't done it yet but I plan too. Dean has a portable velodrome ready and is currently looking for a space for it. If anyone knows of a large industrial space that would work let me know. I'm helping him with the non-profit creation (I had experience with the creation of the Bike kitchen.)
