1st time at the velodrome!!! OMFG!!!

OMFG so much fun, so ****ing intense and and scary and exhilarating! I finally found a break in my schedule to get out there (Alpenrose). Rode the 9 miles (uphill) out which reminded me I need to ride even more than I have been. Did the intro class got hooked (as I knew I would) then rode back. Used a rental while out there as my track bike still needs its wheelset, not sure if I can get it done in a week or not... Anyway, Im still high from the whole experience so bare with me! Its the best thing ever! I cant wait to get out more often, get better and race my ass off!! I know this season is almost over but next, oh man... Yea I'm rambling, sorry...

Exhilarating isn't it?

Once you ride the track and have fun, having some old conversion with 7 pound deepVs seems, well... boring. You all of a sudden want some ace ride that looks good and goes fast.

Congrats! I must admit much envy! I need to get on the googleweb and see if there is one anywhere close to me. And a track bike wouldn't hurt either. Good luck with racing!

Deshi 07-29-10 12:20 AM

Im envious. I want to get out to the track but lack of time, money, and fitness makes it hard.

Is Hellyer close to you?
Also, I think there's one in Carson that was recently built.

Carson is father away from him than Burnaby. He could drive up to Redmond. Hellyer is a drive too.

hairnet 07-29-10 12:36 AM

Carson is for me, not him >:C

Dr. Banzai 07-29-10 12:38 AM

Yep, reading too fast at midnight with 18 ounces of steak in me.

Wait, isn't Maymoor in Washington?

My post was for coma06. :P

Dr. Banzai 07-29-10 12:45 AM

Yep, food coma and 14 browser tabs open means I need to pay attention more.

Trying to negotiate a frame purchase as well via outlook.

Go velodrome!

hairnet 07-29-10 12:50 AM

I fell asleep at work due to food coma, but im always sleepy

cc700 07-29-10 01:05 AM

Philasteve 07-29-10 01:32 AM

Dr. Banzai 07-29-10 01:41 AM

Website says it is 43 degree, slightly more gradual than Burnaby.

Dr. Banzai 07-29-10 02:02 AM

Now I wanna ride that one too. Damn. Redmond first.

yea 43 degrees. That and I guess how short the turns are make it pretty different. My instructor said, if we can learn on this track we will be able to ride on any other track in the country.

coma061 07-29-10 02:11 AM

Sorry to have snagged so much of the thread! I think the Hellyer track is closest (after a short search) as San Jose is about 1 1/2 hours away. Much closer than LA or Washington! Guess I'll have to save up some cash and buy some spandex! Well, after I get in a bit better shape that is.
Mean time, maybe I can plan a nice "romantic road trip" with the wife to SJ for dinner, a movie, and a velodrome viewing session...

Squirrelli 07-29-10 02:17 AM

I want to watch a race at the Forest City Velodrome, 50 degree banking ftw.

coma061 07-29-10 02:25 AM

OOH - San Jose is 2 1/2 hours away, I misspoke. I should know that, I used to drive there a few times a week for work!
Anyway, carry on.

fuji86 07-29-10 03:07 AM

Great, that must've been a heck of an experience ? My biggest fear is riding in traffic like that. Would be awesome to have the track to yourself or a section/lane (top or bottom 1/2) of it to carve out and not look at some dude's spandex covered @zz ? And the class ? A lot of people in it ? Smaller class would probably acclimate a cyclist to the pack/traffic ?

adriano 07-29-10 03:52 AM

the velodrome is nine miles away, and it took you how many months to get around to going there?

Did an intro class a few weeks ago. Totally agree it's super addictive. To bad the closest track to me is 3 HRS AWAY!
