Great, that must've been a heck of an experience ? My biggest fear is riding in traffic like that. Would be awesome to have the track to yourself or a section/lane (top or bottom 1/2) of it to carve out and not look at some dude's spandex covered @zz ? And the class ? A lot of people in it ? Smaller class would probably acclimate a cyclist to the pack/traffic ?

the velodrome is nine miles away, and it took you how many months to get around to going there?

Pedaling - I go to the indoor velodrome here to put in laps when it's pissing rain or freezing cold out.

I know Team Beer (my team) makes a group run to Hellyer every now and then. I haven't done it yet but I plan too. Dean has a portable velodrome ready and is currently looking for a space for it. If anyone knows of a large industrial space that would work let me know. I'm helping him with the non-profit creation (I had experience with the creation of the Bike kitchen.)

I'm not really sure how the portable velodrome thing works. I'm actually really excited to see. I was in the original group of 9 that started the Kitchen and them after a couple of years had to back off due to time constraints. It was (and still is) a great project and organization and I was happy to be a part of it.

3 hours... I believe the closest track to me is somewhere south of the border.

my local velodrome is 15minutes from my house. I went there with school two years ago and it convinced me to buy a fixed gear. Im glad my school did it.

I took my first track development class tonight, also at Alpenrose. Those turns look steep from the stands, and even steeper from the apron. Holy $h!t that first lap around the track is freaky. So is the first time you pull up in the corner then drop back down at the end of a paceline. After a few more laps it gets really, really fun. Until your lungs catch on fire.
What a rush! |
