I always had a guitar around when I was younger, but I didn't really get interested in it until about 2 years ago. I have a Epiphone Demon, a Squier Strat, and a Squier P-Bass. I also have a small classical guitar that my friend borrowed and hasn't returned. These are the techniques I'm practicing:
finger picking chords finger picking harmonized leads alternate picking through scales (major, minor, and harmonic minor) tremolo picking different strum patterns combining mute and open picking together into riffs (like, basic metal) I love guitar! I've always been more of a producer and I think at heart my place is in the studio not the stage, but integrating the creative options a real instrument brings into electronic stuff is just excellent. Here's a track I made that I integrated a bit of guitar to: It doesn't really show much of my skill but this is what I like to make as a musician! |

That's a great Collings Mando. I am a big fan of Collings and I play a Collings SJ sunburst guitar that is amazing. The best way I can describe it is to say it sounds like bells.

shredding is so gross.
Nice mando...I love Collings guitars. |

I have a bunch of instruments, but my camera (including the flash drive that the pics of them were on) is trashed, so I'll just give you the list.
Taylor, martin, and ovation acoustics Fernandes Vertigo Elite (with sustainer pickup) 64 Fender Strat (was my dad's. rarely comes out of its case) 90s Epiphone SG 75 Gibson GK55 (Les Paul Special, before they made LP specials. mine is number 843 of 1000) 72 Tele Thinline reissue from like 3 years ago Schecter C1 classic (emg 81 and 85) Orange Rockerverb 50 58 Fender Twin amp (came with the strat from my dad) Mesa Boogie dual rectifier half stack Peavey 5150 II (head only) marshall 1960a cabinet (goes with the 5150) pignose practice amp. bunches of effects and crap dean acoustic bass mid 00's Fender Jazz bass 67 Fender Mustang bass ernie ball stingray markbass 1x12 combo ampeg svt3-pro ampeg 8x10 Yamaha Oak Custom 4pc drumset 60's Roger's snare 70's Ludwig snare A ton of zildjian, sabian, and paiste cymbals. i generally only use 3-4 at a time though depending on what i need for the gig. cheap roland v-drums (electric drums) kit for the apartment late 90s deering banjo couple mandolins i dont know the model, but i have an old hammond travel organ from the 60's i have a couple keyboards. nothing really great there though. korg theremin i have a sweet baby blue roland keytar! a friend just bought me a sitar for my last birthday, but i dont know how to play it yet. i want a whamola. like really badly. i dont know, theres a bunch more stuff, this is just what i can recall. most of my stuff is at various friends houses/home studios cuz my apartment isnt that big and my wife would kill me if i brought it all home. also, the dude in the post above, that is a sweet washtub bass man. i love that stuff. |
I have a Fender Squier Stratocaster which was my first guitar at 10 years old, and as of a year ago a Gibson SG faded brown...Love both guitars equally, most would not like to admit they play a Squier or own one, but even the Squier can outperform the SG at times...I can play Stairway to Heaven just as beautifully on my Squier as the SG, and it's one of the most reliable guitars I've ever owned. As for what I play, mostly Led Zep/The Who/Springsteen/Santana/ZZ Top.
Also, props to J3ffr3y for the Buckethead video post, I've been to 3 of his concerts now and he blows me away every time. |

Stuff I've owned at some point or another. Mostly synths and drum machines, aside from that one ibanez guitar:
DSI MoPho DSI Tetra DSI Prophet 08 SE Access Virus TI Polar Novation K-Station Casio CZ-101 Korg MicroKorg Korg ER-1 mk1 Korg ER-1 mk2 Korg DDD-1 Linn LM-2 Oberheim DMX Roland R8 Roland TR-707 Boss DR-202 Akai APC40 Akai MPC 1000 Akai MPC 2500 Akai MPC 2000XL Ibanez 540S LTD and a slew of FX pedals. I've sold most of it. Now I just have the APC40, MPC 2000XL, MoPho, and Tetra, along with my computer, preamp/interface, and monitor speakers. Simplicity feels good. |

Thanks. The weight isn't that bad it's about the same as an LP. The SX bases came from http://www.rondomusic.com/ and were a little over $100 each. They are very well made and the only complaint that I would have with them is that they have laminated fretboards and I prefer raw wood. The site also sells Agile guitars which are a good deal (however they used to have a better body design and were cheaper). For a good deal on a guitar check out http://store.guitarfetish.com/ . The Xaviere guitar are sweet and they use the website's GFS pickups. I have the GFS pups in my Strat, BC Rich and LP copy and couldn't be happier with them |
I need a recommendation for a good bass to start on, and amp.
