Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

SE Draft sale on performancebicycle.com, $170!!

Performance has some SE Draft's left in 61cm for only $170 after the 15% off coupon. I'm waiting for some smaller sizes to come in stock, but wanted to give you guys a heads up. Would make a great beater or commuter. It even comes with both a fixed and free cog installed.

Tempting. But there's no customer feedback on this bike. Anyone with experience want to chime in? Yes or no.?

cheap bike that'll work for someone who desperately wants to get on a fixed gear or single speed for cheap. not worth upgrading or putting a whole lot into, heavy with lower end parts. but it'll work fine, and when it starts to break you can throw it out.

$170 seems just right for that bike, but honestly, if I had $170, I'd rather get some 10 speed off CL.

I doubt they're going to get more in. It's a closeout for a reason.

This.

I got a Dawes MTA (same bike) as a present over a year ago. For what it is, it's a decent bike. I did spend money on necessary upgrades (bars, stem, cranks), but nothing i can't transfer to the next frame. If you live in a major city, it's a great lockup/beater bike. It is pretty heavy though.

Just bought a 49cm for my girlfriend from the store in person. Came to $179 after tax. Bike looks great imo, much better paint than on the Nashbar Hounder that I bought last year for $150. Rides smooth and is very solid. No issues with toes hitting front tire either. Standover height isn't much different from my 56cm bike though, I'll have to see if its OK for her.

Oh and this is the 2010 model. They're just trying to clear out the 2009's first on the website, but the 2010's are in the store now.

No the saying is if you need a commuter bike don't spend twice as much as you need to
