Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What if you run a front brake on a deep v track wheelset? I'm not trolling, just wondering. I realize it will screw up the paint, but will the brakes work?

Bikes: Visp with way better parts than a frame,2010 fuji track pro, motobecane phantom cross outlaw

it will work, will screech very very loud.

If you get Carbon wheelset brakes (cork pads) it will work and not damage anything for quite a while.
But they do make deep Vee with machined braking surfaces

Under the paint is actually a layer of greased baby's bottom: smoothest substance known to man. Once the paint goes, you're F'ed, as surely there is no brake that can stop such a surface.

on the real: yep. paint might get a bit gnarly. otherwise s'all good.

Thanks guys! I saw a set of orange deep v's with white spokes and orange hubs last night that I now NEED on my bike. I was debating just going brakeless if I had to, but I rarely use my brake anyway so it should be legit to run them.

Why not just get machined sidewalls?

I would run brakeless on non-machined then. Pretty sure running a brake will leave some ugly black marks, ruining those precious orange Deep Vs

Machined sidewalls aren't nearly as ugly as brake-streaked sidewalls.

Truth. I dont even think machined look that bad.. sometimes you can make them flow with the look of the bike

Eventually people are gonna learn to stop tempting fate.

Brakes on Non-MSW rims?
Riding on reversed tire tread?

Play with fire long enough, you're gonna get burned.
