Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? It's a conversion with few actually new parts, which happen to be mediocre; you should never pay $400 for a conversion. The seller is trying to make a profit. Get something new off BD instead; more bang for your buck.

We all gotta start somewhere
BD = Bikes direct; if you are wondering about a bike there; just simply type in the make and model of it up there in the search input at the upper right. We know more than the people there and all of the bikes there have been discussed about.

If you want something light but willing to go for a much harsher ride; the Dawes SST AL would be right for you; it's lighter because it is made out of aluminium and with carbon fork; but you trade off comfort as aluminium does not do much as far as absorbing vibration from the road as steel does.

Unless you're very financially strapped should you get that bike; it just reaks of cheap and the saying goes you get what you pay for. What do you plan to do with the bike?

i would be riding it to work a lot instead of driving and riding around town on most of my free time. could use the exercise and riding is amazing, driving sucks. i recently sold a really old road bike from the 60s that was given to me from a friend.. not a single speed though, so this wouldnt be a first type thing

Since you're using it commuting i'll recommend you to go with something with wider tires and clearance and mounts for fenders and racks for weather and hauling things. Your lucky as you asked here first before buying as many people often times buy then ask and end up regretting it.

Check these out:

The 1st one is nicer but more expensive through.

No prob. Just remember to tighten down the cog and lockring before you ride it for the 1st time.
