My summers are spent ripping around flat farmland as a fixed "roadie" knocking pounds off and building strength. Winters are urban rides and velodrome twice a week. You know my choice.

This because it would make me feel like Batman.

The man makes some beautiful frames.

One I made myself. I'd take the cash I'd spend on a high end frame, add a bit to it, head out to UBI--or even Yamaguchi--and learn how to roll my own. Come back home, whip out a few more for friends to get some experience, then try to recoup come costs selling frames to others.

Will be building my own... am looking at some 30's frames for inspiration.

Ken Cox 09-10-10 10:56 AM

I liked the geometry of the pre-2009 "designed by a chick" Bianchi Pista.

If building a bike today from a commercial frame set, I'd go with a Surly Steamroller for geometry, strength, tire fit, fender fit, quality of design, quality of manufacture and low cost.

If I had a little more money to spend on the frame set, I'd go with a custom frame by Warren Rice (Realm Cycles) in Sisters, Oregon.

Actually, the sticker says "100% chick designed". I also like the "no brakes" warning sticker.

yummygooey 09-10-10 12:14 PM

Wait. We're talking about the Pista Concept, right?

Yeah, I wasn't paying attention. Y'all meant the steel Pista, right?

Actually, for a time, the Steel Pista shared the exact same geometry as the Pista Concept. I think this changed in 2007 or 2008 or something. The steel Pista then adopted a more street geometry.

Hmmm it appears my black army lettered '04 lacks this sticker... I have a 7005 aluminium tubing sticker in place of it... :p

I think 2008 was the last year that the steel pista had the aggresive geo

Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Dr. Banzai 09-10-10 05:11 PM

just a little too flash for me.

hpmcardle 09-10-10 05:15 PM

Yeah, 'tis true. I guess I don't really think about it because I'll never be able to afford half of the bike, but they're really amazing machines. If I wanted some style, I'd totally do a Colnago Super :D

certainly not the most comfortable (but if i want long ride comfort i would ride a different bike). it's fun as hell though and gets more miles than i thought it would.

That paint job... It's like you're speeding, even when stationary!

i like the fork, but that frame will aways be poorly designed unless youre a funny looking chap thats all tibia and no femur. the chainstays are short, but that could have been achieved without sacrificing sensible fit with a curved seattube or a cutout.
