Bikes: '10 Kilo TT Stripper

I had something similar (kind-of-ish) happen to me:

When I ordered my kilo I posted on facebook how it was shipping and I was super stoked, then this dude I know who's a complete a-hole starts to talk about how I should have ordered a state bicycle because omg they're so awesome and hipster and made in America and such. https://www.statebicycle.com/

So I ignore it, and my bike comes and it's amazing and everything, and this dude starts telling me I made such a bad choice because anything from bikesdirect is made in taiwan and horrible quality and a rip-off and all this crap about specs and such, and that my brand new bike is a piece of s***.
So I told him when he became a bike mechanic, he could let me know, and maybe I'd listen.
This pisses him off even more and he starts to talk about how my bike doesn't even have a flip flop hub, since it didn't come with a freewheel attached.
I corrected him and explained how it indeed was a flip flop, since it allows for both a fixed cog and a freewheel could be mounted on the same wheel, which isn't possible on a non-flip flop hub.
But of course I'm wrong since his knowledge, "comes from the past 4 years of researching, reading, working on, biking and just being an overall biking fanatic. Along with being into biking for many years before that, only within the last 4 have I been increadible in to it though. You just jumped on the fixed hipster bandwagon along with every other cool kid in town."

I asked around; The ****** doesn't even own a roadbike/singlespeed/fixed gear at all.
A**hole doesn't even bike.

It's just a dude I went to school with, so I guess not really friends. Annoying as hell though.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Is there anything different about those various "State" bikes besides the colors?

That and they don't have the cool flash programming that changes the colors of components for their website like Republic has for their configurator. So comparatively their website is lame ?

Bikes: raleigh gran prix converted to fixed

i'm not sure if republic and state are the same company but i remember a few months ago checking out both their websites(just curious) and noticing that they had used a lot of the same photos, maybe the photos are supplied by the factory they buy from? i don't know, just strange and i hadn't really thought of it again until now

Ishamael - that's really funny.

The dude ended up coming to pick up his bike before I got back to the shop the other day but a coworker managed to take a few pics. I haven't been spending much time there as of late because I've been taking care of a lot of other stuff but I'll post as soon as I get them from him.

He's talking **** because he honest-to-god believes he is a bicycle genius, and that he actually thinks he's into it and knows what he's talking about.
Yet, in reality he's a loser who thinks a bike with pretty color schemes are better than one that is actually good quality.

I mean I love a good looking bike, but I believe you have to make them that way yourself. Things like republic or state are lame to me.
But who knows? I really know nothing about the state bicycles. They might be greatly constructed and a nice bike.

...He just has no right to talk down about my kilo if he doesn't even ride.

god, i remember when there weren't any bikes available in the united states that cost under 1000 and had color schemes. i remember when the kilo was the flashy, super cool bad quality bike.

then came the langster city bikes. then came the mail order bikes in this thread. now there's a million of the knockoff 'custom' cheap bikes and for what it's worth, i would rather have an se draft than a state/republic bike. what fascist names, too. god. what a sour ****ing history.

also, itt no one's ever said bad **** about my kilo except that it's dumb to make it look like a shoe. anyone who i meet randomly is like "awesome bike!" and i always respond "oh, it's a mercier kilo, it's actually pretty cheap and not really all that great, but i love it." and that's been the end of it.

i dig the samba motif. i may be biased, as the only gym shoes ive bought for the past ten years have been sambas and chuck taylors, but still.

yeah. i loved it. but it had it's run. what i meant to say is that anyone who gives you **** about your bike is just being a jackass. it's funny when they're riding a true P.O.S., but it's more about them being a jackass than it is anything else.

Wait what? A samba motif on a bike? Any pics? I think I've seen it before but never really paid much attention to any kind of theme or "motif"....maybe I'm just dense.
