Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: TBL Onyx Pro(ss converted), Pake SS (starting to look kinda pimped)

Since this photo was taken the bouncy front is AL stiff now, and the front is eeeever so slightly lower.
Monster cross conversion hopefully by the time the snow flies this winter, but I think i need new wheel first, I've gone and worn these ones out.

Yep. 2010 Dawes Deadeye in 17 inch.

I really like how it rides... It is 30 pounds though. I refused to spend any more than this on a 29er mountain bike since I'm not an avid off roader.

Would you recommend that bike? My fiancé and I are thinking about grabbing a couple mtns for trail riding. Just light stuff. I like the price, assuming the bike is good.

I can't in good conscience recommend one of these. Canadian Tire still sells bikes very similar; the parts change from year to year. I kept the wheels (I still use them) and my crankset but tossed the rest. Mine was a 2003, I think. They're MTBs for people who never go off road :-)
I think a mid-priced bike would be better, or a decent used brand name bike. I bought a used 1988 GT Karakorum K2 for $40. It needed work, but I converted it to single speed, too. It has a much better frame, brakes and shifters, but of course the shifters and derailleurs were removed.

Much appreciated. Looks like they don't ship anyways, and I'm not driving from Texas to Canada for a bike.
