feelin' fine

Today is my first day commuting from my new residence. Whats the big deal? Well my old place was an easy 5 miles to where I work. The new joint is about 25. Doing a ~50 mile round trip commute on a brakeless fixed gear has left me feelin damn good, and I wanted share this tender, special moment with my fellow ss/fixed forum denizens. It was a smooth ride except for being run off the road by a school bus of all things.

I can't wait for the ride home.

Bikes: 2 fixies, 1 road, 29er in the works.

Good times! I do 15 so I'm in your shadow, though I have a few hills, here or there.

Ride hard.

hey merz nothing like an uninterrupted spin to start your day. i only go 6.5 miles each way but with 45×20 it feels farther. 50 miles is awesome; tell us how much you love it in february!

i've been run off the road by schoolbusses too. it's kind of surprising, and very annoying. i have no data to back this up w/, but it's my guess that schoolbus drivers are actually probably, on average, pretty bad drivers. i may be wrong though.

have fun w/ that commute. go through delaware county at all?

Bikes: Crust Romanceur, VO Polyvalent, Surly Steamroller, others?

I also have had problems with schoolbuses. They also honk at me more than any other vehicle.

Props on your commute distance!

Wow! You are hardcore. Good for you! I imagine you are really saving a ***** load of money on fuel.

My one way commute is just a little over a mile. I do plenty of other errands on my bike but as far as commutes go, five miles at the most (sometimes I come back home and have to go in thus 2 x the commute).

Wow-- a one mile commute? Does that even qualify for a commute?

Then again, I'm only 3 mi each way. But it's downhill to work (something I still have to get totally comfortable with-- I'm probably going all of 7 mph since i'm still freaked about the brakeless/keeping control thing) and uphill out of the saddle more than half the ride home.

I can't decide if I'm jealous of your 25mi commute or happy that it isn't me. Probably both. Mine's just over 5mi and a lot of times I wish it was longer. I keep telling myself I should leave early and do an extra 30 or 40 minutes because 20 minutes isn't really long enough. On the other hand, on really wet, cold, or windy days I guess I'm glad it's not longer.

Here comes winter!

I was living in philly before but I always worked in Camden. I'm kind of in transition right now so I'm living with my dad in south jersey. My commute takes me through Burlington and Camden counties. So far I'm only able to pull it off 2-3 days a week - I car it the rest of the week...

hopefully winter will not defeat me =]

2-3 days a week is still impressive. Hopefully you will get back into philly soon. I have lived in south jersey... didnt like it much.

I biked all last winter (and that was a BAD winter as far as temperatures go) you should be fine as long as you dress right.

goodluck!
