Jackets!

this is going to sound really hipstery of me, but one concern of mine is lower back exposure. yes, i can just imagine the "get a shirt that fits" comments already lol....but seriously, even wearing long shirts, sometimes in the drops the shirt pulls up and my lower back will be exposed. admittedly, me and friends have pointed and laughed at the more hipstery type riding down the street with exposed butt crack because their girl pants and extra small v-neck....but then ill feel the wind on my lower back and look back and feel the cold kiss of karma for mocking others.
im guessing this is a factor many of these jackets take into consideration....im particularly attracted to the rapha not only for its good looks but the "butt flap cover" its got going on. but yah 300+ bucks for a jacket? no thanks.
anyone know of a good crack cover jacket? or is it safe to assume all these jackets got it covered lol

haha yes i do notice that.
im liking the chrome jacket style wise, it just didn't seem to have the same back taper as other jackets.
the rapha was easy to spot that because instead of being tapered it has an actual butt flap! kind of dig it ;p
yes looks like i could use a nice cyclist specific jacket now that i think about it....

Gotta say, the Orion doesn't exactly blow me away aesthetically.

I guess it's not terrible, but that's a pretty unflattering fit.

When it's really cold, I wear a non-insulated snowboarding jacket with layers under it. Not cycling-specific, but it's the warmest jacket I own and it's waterproof which is the biggest concern in the PNW....it's also long enough that it covers my back when I'm riding in my drops, and has pit vents.

hmm...any cycling cut run jackets with a hood? perhaps a very thin one with a bill that folds up and zippers away or something ;p

I wear one of these:

It's a Marmot Windshirt. The whole thing stuffs into the chest pocket and weighs next to nothing. Obviously it's not very warm, but it's windproof to an extent and water repellent.

Hoods and cycling work well for me. Baseball cap is crucial to keep the hood from infringing on your view. My olde Nashbar jacket had a giant hood that fit over helmets no problemo.

I came across the Nike Vapor jacket a little while ago. Has the tapered back as well as a hood. I like it, but it's expensive for what it is, i think.

so what kind of head / ear protective gear do you wear, besides your helmet?

Like carleton said, cycling specific jackets are cut longer in the back just for this purpose. My jacket is hiking specific, which worked pretty well too (for me, anyway), but cycling specific stuff is definitely what you're looking for.
There was a thread about this hoodie a little while back; lots of detail and comments about how much people loved it. Probably make for a good read (if you can find it), if you're interested in the hoodie.
My hiking jacket has a hood, which I had used in a really, really heavy downpour once. Most of the time, however, a cycling cap under the helmet should be more than enough.
