I don't wear a helmet. For cold weather though, even at freezing I don't like full head cover. The top of my head gets too hot. I just go for ear warmers

although I would totally rock:

damn. I almost got the champ but decided against it. Kind of regret it...i need a good riding jacket. Unlike vixtor and most ssfg riders, I'm not a squirrel.

Also, I saw this is the back of BicycleTimes and it seems pretty great.

Totally. I tried on 20 jackets today and they were all pretty sadly cut or were some ugly as sin white rapper print.

Bought a stormtech in a nice orange for %50 off. Long in the back, cut right, pockets galore. It's -10c here tonight and it was plenty warm with a lululemon base layer and a mexx merino wool sweater. Great combo.

I want a nice, thin jacket that I can wear a T shirt under during a cold Los Angeles night (~40F?) and be warm enough to ride all night. any suggestions?

I rode with a windbreaker on a 15mile ride today.

My arms were drenched with sweat....
What kind on ventilation gets rid of that?

could anyone recommend a good jacket for around 35-40 degree weather? Ideally I'd be able to just wear a T shirt or long sleeve under it. I'm trying to pick something up during black friday

I have something very similar to this, but with a tricott (sp?) lining. For a non cycling specific jacket it has worked wonderfully. Unfortunately, Marmot quit making it a couple years ago.

I picked up a Pearl Izumi Zephrr jacket a couple years ago. It's a nice windbreaker and water resistant enough for ~25 miles in constant light rain.

For cold weather riding I love my Endura Stealth jacket. It's totally waterproof yet still has a little bit of stretch. It certainly does not fall into the sub $100 category though. https://www.endurasport.com/Product.a...23&prod_id=141

Some of you spend more money on cloths than I do on college tuition.

I'm afraid I don't quite follow...

Ok, now I think I get what you are saying; that my parents pay for my college. This is not the case. Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, my parents are unable to pay for higher education. My college experience, as well as my car and bikes, are funded entirely through my hard work. No loans, no credit card. I am sure others on this forum are in a similar situation. If this is what you were saying (please correct me if I am wrong, not trying to start a flame war) please try to be more considerate of the circumstances others face. Sorry to the OP for the slight derailment. It just gets on my nerves when people assume everyone who claims "broke college kid" status is complaining. I personally hate that phrase. Sorry again for getting side tracked, but that comment really ticks me off.

I got an REI Elements rain jacket(new from the looks of it) at Savers for 12 bucks, not sure how much it's worth.
And a plain dark blue windbreaker with zipper pockets and a waist cord for 7 bucks. If you don't need extreme ventilation, check out the thrift store.

Northface Venture or GTFO. Buy it from REI. After the waterproofing wears off (like all jackets do) bring it back and get a new one no problem. Over and over. They're slim fit and perfect all around.

He wants a thin jacket that does the job without layering.

Bikes: Specialized rockhopper, Ross gran tour

For winter gear I went to Ross dress for less with twenty bucks, picked out a nice polyester athletic jacket, it works great.

We'll see how it works out once it arrives.
This arrived yesterday. It's very comfortable, stretchy, with a slightly longer hem in the back, so it's great for riding. I also put it on the sink and ran some water on it, and it did a great job at repelling it.

My only gripe: It's MUCH thinner than I thought it would be, which probably means it won't be a lot of help when it gets really cold. I'm still going to keep it, cause it feels like a great late fall / early spring type of jacket.

I might still be able to take it out on the colder days if I get some good, warm layers underneath. Only way to find out is to put it to the test.
