Yeah, that's plenty of room.

Was not able to get chainring to hit the chainstay yesterday, so all is good to go.

I was gonna say- what about when you put a chain on there.... and then... I thought about it. Seriously... what happens if the chain ring deflects a bit under load? Or if there is a bit of play in the BB?

The end result with the chainline:

Would have had an awful chainline if I had put the chainring on the outside, think chainring 3/4" off, besides, it's not as close as the picture makes it seem.
Now back to the amusing gorilla pictures.

I vote that from now on, all of cc's post must be in gorilla form. End discussion.
Cool pic of cc, brah.

That happened to me when I was putting my bike together a couple of months ago. Saw that there was virtually zero space between the chainring and and the stays and I was like "well how the **** is the chain going to fit on there? This doesn't make sense."
Then I thought about it and lol'd.

It'll flex.
Is it square taper BB? If so, the crank will eventually move inwards on the spindle as the spindle / crank interface wears.
You could try a spacer or two in between your cog and the hub, then mount your chainring on the outside of your crank.
Is this a conversion?

And I'm not putting a mallet to my frame.
