I would argue he should still compensate for return shipping somehow. the reason for the return is an error on his part, not the OP's. I mean what happened here is functionally the same as ordering a white wheelset and getting green. Identical in function, but if I wanted white and got green, I would not expect having to pay anything more than the original price and the original shipping. I don't know why I would have to pay for shipping back when all I did was pick a product and give my money.

I think an easier course of action would have been to refund the apparent $40 margin he gives himself. Wouldn't be the exact product the OP wanted, but money talks, and the seller can just sweep this one under the rug and doesn't lose any money. I'm sure something like this could have been worked out, especially considering the distances involved.

OP here. What you said. Why should I be out of pocket for shipping to get the refund? I'm keeping the wheels - probably woulda received an apology better than some cash discount gesture had it been made in a timely way.

Your call, in the end. I'm raging about the stupidity of the seller. Enjoy the wheels. I wish I had them.

I didn't end up buying it because of the customer service.

OP here - yep. Think this way around too - I was for a looking for a time at getting the 28 hole rims. And spent some time deciding. And when I decided I wanted 32h, I looked for 32h rims. And found someone selling them so placed my order there.
But ultimately to me thats something that I will get over.
I just note they continue advertising these wheels on their site being out of stock. Some people care a lot about the difference between 28, 32, 36, so its irrelevant whether anyone else thinks 36h is stronger, heavier, better, sexier, does the dishes for you or tucks you in bed at night.

cal_blam 11-19-10 07:42 PM

Interested to know - Did you let him know you weren't happy and when did this happen? What did you do?

i don't have the messages anymore but he was very unprofessional and argumentative. i ordered from him on ebay, a set of sun m13s with black formulas. when i messaged him like "hey, these hubs are stamped origin8 and your listing said you use all black formula hubs? i think we should work out a partial refund or a way for me to get the wheels i ordered." and he just argued with me that they were formulas (yes, i know they are) and it's impossible for the US to import blank formula hubs. each time i tried to expplain to him that i ordered them for a reason he just got very defensive. i eventually gave up and left him negative feedback with a warning to all other buyers.

our exchange of messages were basically the same as OP. i made a thread about it and some of the people on this thread that also think it's lame, were in my thread with different opinions.

Has anyone e-mailed this thread to Cesar yet?

Seriously? I have 2 wheelsets with no logo black formulas back at home that I dont use. I think there is profit to be made for me :D

cal_blam 11-21-10 02:12 AM

It doesnt seem to me worth emailing this thread to Cesar, I just doesn't seem he gets it. He doesn't understand the market or the customers.

I was thinking about it today as I rode around - I was worried that a thread like this would have a disproportionately adverse impact on his business. But then i realised if i rocked up to an LBS to pick up my wheels, and they presented something diffrnt, I would say nuh-uh. There's just no way they would do it, or even if they did do it with best intentions, no way they would speak to a customer that way afterwards.

So online dealers - if you wanna live by the web and treat your customers from afar like dirt after you got their $, be prepared for the reviews. Its kinda 'he who lives by the sword'...

At the very least I am getting a good laugh from this thread, so thanks all.

Would death threats put him this into his perspective?

As I can sure use some Cesar in my salad. :roflmao2:

The whole origin 8/ formula thing is interesting too. Even tho they may be exactly the same apart from brand, brand is still an important part of peoples buying decision. If you ordered Oakley sunglasses online, and got "wal-dick"s instead, and it turned out they were actually the same thing but diffrnt branding - you'd be pissed, right? I have no brand allegiance in hubs, so it doesnt matter to me so much.

But the fact that he uses the formula logo on his site, and doesnt say anyhting like "we use origin 8 hubs or some other brand which is actually made by formula" is very annoying. And the purchaser has no way of knowing whether at some point origin has changed its specifications, etc etc.

So even though they are the same hubs, still vendor should NOT be doing this with hub brands.

Squirrelli 11-21-10 02:35 AM

He wouldn't have piss that many people off if he just put "Origin8 branded Formula hubs" on the site.

HandsomeRyan 11-21-10 06:55 AM

Add me to the list of people who won't be ordering from that guy. That's some piss-poor customer service.

zeBRAHz 11-21-10 09:28 AM

@ handsomeryan where did you get that front rack on your single speed??? it's perfect

One of the wheelsets I ordered from Velomine had Origin 8/Formulas and the listing simply said "Formula hubs". I didn't care at all and still don't.

If that was the only issue here, it would be a non-issue in my opinion. This dude is just a dumbass. I'm bummed that my e-mail bounced because I really wanted him to see the pic I posted of him where he's calling the OP a chump.
