good post avner, but you could've included a picture of some sort of feline or flying rodent or gorilla with clever one liner to really make a statement.

I would argue he should still compensate for return shipping somehow. the reason for the return is an error on his part, not the OP's. I mean what happened here is functionally the same as ordering a white wheelset and getting green. Identical in function, but if I wanted white and got green, I would not expect having to pay anything more than the original price and the original shipping. I don't know why I would have to pay for shipping back when all I did was pick a product and give my money. I think an easier course of action would have been to refund the apparent $40 margin he gives himself. Wouldn't be the exact product the OP wanted, but money talks, and the seller can just sweep this one under the rug and doesn't lose any money. I'm sure something like this could have been worked out, especially considering the distances involved. |

OP here. What you said. Why should I be out of pocket for shipping to get the refund? I'm keeping the wheels - probably woulda received an apology better than some cash discount gesture had it been made in a timely way.

I have to say, 4 spokes could be pretty significant... think the other way around. what if he wanted a nice set of 28 spoke wheels, and the seller sent him a 32? Or, from my experience (though I have given up on it), I wanted to find a gold 36 hold hub, but the ebay seller showed 32 hole...claimed they were 36, but wouldn't take a photo of them to prove it. I didn't end up buying it because of the customer service.
But ultimately to me thats something that I will get over. I just note they continue advertising these wheels on their site being out of stock. Some people care a lot about the difference between 28, 32, 36, so its irrelevant whether anyone else thinks 36h is stronger, heavier, better, sexier, does the dishes for you or tucks you in bed at night. |

Your call, in the end. I'm raging about the stupidity of the seller. Enjoy the wheels. I wish I had them.

i had this exact problem with the same guy

Interested to know - Did you let him know you weren't happy and when did this happen? What did you do?

i don't have the messages anymore but he was very unprofessional and argumentative. i ordered from him on ebay, a set of sun m13s with black formulas. when i messaged him like "hey, these hubs are stamped origin8 and your listing said you use all black formula hubs? i think we should work out a partial refund or a way for me to get the wheels i ordered." and he just argued with me that they were formulas (yes, i know they are) and it's impossible for the US to import blank formula hubs. each time i tried to expplain to him that i ordered them for a reason he just got very defensive. i eventually gave up and left him negative feedback with a warning to all other buyers.
our exchange of messages were basically the same as OP. i made a thread about it and some of the people on this thread that also think it's lame, were in my thread with different opinions. |
Has anyone e-mailed this thread to Cesar yet?

It doesnt seem to me worth emailing this thread to Cesar, I just doesn't seem he gets it. He doesn't understand the market or the customers.
I was thinking about it today as I rode around - I was worried that a thread like this would have a disproportionately adverse impact on his business. But then i realised if i rocked up to an LBS to pick up my wheels, and they presented something diffrnt, I would say nuh-uh. There's just no way they would do it, or even if they did do it with best intentions, no way they would speak to a customer that way afterwards. So online dealers - if you wanna live by the web and treat your customers from afar like dirt after you got their $, be prepared for the reviews. Its kinda 'he who lives by the sword'... At the very least I am getting a good laugh from this thread, so thanks all. |

But the fact that he uses the formula logo on his site, and doesnt say anyhting like "we use origin 8 hubs or some other brand which is actually made by formula" is very annoying. And the purchaser has no way of knowing whether at some point origin has changed its specifications, etc etc. So even though they are the same hubs, still vendor should NOT be doing this with hub brands. |
He wouldn't have piss that many people off if he just put "Origin8 branded Formula hubs" on the site.
|
Add me to the list of people who won't be ordering from that guy. That's some piss-poor customer service.
|
@ handsomeryan where did you get that front rack on your single speed??? it's perfect

If that was the only issue here, it would be a non-issue in my opinion. This dude is just a dumbass. I'm bummed that my e-mail bounced because I really wanted him to see the pic I posted of him where he's calling the OP a chump. |
