I prefer grips as well (Ourys and track grips). I have a package of Planet Bike and two rolls of Green Grips cloth tape laying around. I've also used the cheap Nashbar tape and felt that it was too thick, but I have a feeling it was just due to my lack of skill in wrapping.

+1 on the Bontrager Gel Tape. I have the brown on one of my Raleigh road bikes and it adds a touch of class along with being nice and cushy. I don't wear gloves when I ride that bike because they don't really help any and it feels better without.
I also have used cotton on an old Schwinn Letour and I love it, haven't lacquered it yet, not sure if I will or not. Just recently tried hockey tape. The tape I bought is black and is purported to be cloth, but it doesn't feel at all like the other cloth tape I used. It also is a pain to work with because if it kinks, it sticks to itself and is hard to get unstuck. I put two layers on some older, thin, drops and it looks great. We'll see how it wears.

Cinelli cork. I know a lot of people complain (at least in the Road forum) that it tears too easily, it's impossible to unwrap, and the light colors are impossible to keep clean. But I like it. Just feels right.

texture wise, fizik microtex feels great.
deda foam tape and cinelli cork are also good.
the adhesive backing on cinelli cork is too strong. I just pat down my bars with some talcum powder before wrapping them up in cinelli cork to make it easier to unwrap and reuse.

So far my favorite is specialized roubaix is my favorite so far. On both of my bars, very stretchy and easy to put on.
But, going to take it off later in the week to try some fizik soft touch tape.
Brooks tape is horrible btw. Rock hard and the hard lumps that come from the overlap are annoying.

Yeah, I kinda just like the way it looks. I put some cushies underneath it so it's fairly comfy, but I always ride in gloves because it's cold up here so it doesn't really matter for me.

I see alot of love for Deda tape. Maybe it was just a bad set but the one time I used it, it didnt hold up, didnt feel all that nice compared to standard Cinelli cork, and it tore easily. Iv never had a problem with Cinelli tape tearing.
I gotta say that Silca tape is really nice. I have a set of bullhorn with that stuff on them. Dont ride those bars to much but the tape is really really nice.

It's funny how many people hate Ourys. I've never had one single problem with them or found anything to vehemently dislike about them. In fact, I find them to be quite comfortable.

On drop bars, I like two layers of good ol' cloth tape.
