Not much love here... the seatpost clamp on my 727 stripped today.... while I was loosening the bolt, no user error here, I am especially careful with integrated posts, had my pista concept with like seatpost clamp type since 2004 and it's in pristine condition. Luckily this is common enough that my fixie LBS/ leader dealer down here knew exactly what to do, re tap with a significantly larger gauge bore, double the surface area. Saw the owner tighten down the binder entirely a few times until both sides binded pre install of seatpost in redone seatclamp, I swear you can't do that with the stock bolt/ threading.

I have much worse stories involving seatpost clamps. Much, much worse.

Leuky - you know Leader has a lifetime warranty, right?

Nope, it's a bargain bin coghouse ebay penny auction frame; with presumed blacklisted serial on their warranty list (didn't even bother calling them up to find out; maybe I should've anyhow, as who knows, they could've sent me a 725mid heh considering how the 727 cost more than the 725, they don't make it anymore, and leader liquidated them all through coghouse).

Anyhow, the leader dealer says it's nearly always a lost cause to claim on a stripped binder bolt to leader's warranty as there's just too much hassle and time for both sides, sending it back for them to inspect due to the lack of being able to create concrete photographic evidence (that's how leader's warranty usually works; send them photo evidence of say a crack [with paint stripped to expose it entirely] and they'll have you covered with a new one in the mail); nonetheless, the area of suspicion is just too miniscule anyhow, a screwhole. Most importantly is that any stripping of threads in the industry is usually caused by user error.

At the end of the day, my 727's durability was significantly upgraded in less than half an hour.

i swear not greasing it enough and using the seatpost you used enough to cause that to occur was likely the user error you deny.

it's a bad design, no argument. but you can't rule out user error. threads down strip when taking the load off of them unless they've seized, which only happens when there's not enough grease... or the threads got damaged when you torqued it down too much because your 27.2 wasn't big enough.

evilcryalotmore 06-26-11 04:48 PM

Howd bad where the threads after?

It's as greased as the 75 looseball BB I have on it; seatpost is thomson which I'm pretty sure has some of the best tolerances (for the record it is greased sufficiently as well). Overtighten? Not a chance, my snap on computorq begs to differ... it's the same one I trust to all my carbon stuff as well, hasn't let me down before. I know how to properly use a torque wrench for the record as well considering I worked for my uncle's machine shop back during college. I always tighten it to 2.5Nm just like always on my pista concept with like integrated seatpost binder.... Nothing on the torque wrench's part either, it's one of snap on's highest end models with digital precision, and whose brand is already high end to begin with. Plus as insurance, I always check its calibration every time I use it with weights. I'm pretty sure the possibility of user error is slim.

Clean gone.

I have no problem with mine and I hardly ever use my torque wrench. At any rate, the new frames have a nice new seatpost binder.
