EigthInch frames

Aside from rear brake bosses, is there any difference between their Scrambler V3 and Butcher frames? In addition to that, looking on their site, is there any difference between the Butcher and Cyclocross frames? I'm slowly acquiring parts for my first fg/ss and I'm interested in getting one of these frames, if they are available.

First thing I notice is you can currently only see info for and buy the Scrambler.

i have a scrambler, its got a heavy fork, but its a great deal for the price. the butcher looks a little more beefed up and trick oriented(comes with trick fork, removable brake boss, integrated headset, probably fatter tire clearence, and more toe clearence). Im not sure if it had a euro BB, or a mid BB for bmx cranks. whichever frame you get depends on how you plan to ride your bike.

heres the tricktrack thread on the butcher: https://tricktrack.org/forum/viewtopi...0857370e65f11e

Yesterday, either on Facebook or their blog, they mentioned that the Butcher frames would be "released soon." I don't have to have the frame next week, so a release day is fine in my book. I was hoping someone would have some knowledge of their 'cross frame in addition to anything else.

Thanks for the link, on there is says mid BB. I might as well just stick with my original thought of getting the Scrambler. If I recall correctly, I've read somewhere about people fitting wider tires on it. I'd like something that can accommodate cross tires, but I'm not really set on it and have talked myself into taking that out of consideration many of times. I haven't looked real hard for a ss cross frame, but the few I've come across are outside of the price I'm willing to pay.

if you get a scrambler, you also gotta invest in some new forks then, mine can probably go up to about 28c, cause on my 25c there was still like only a couple mm of clearence... or you can wait, i think eighthinch is going to produce a CX frame, idk when though

for fork rake on the scrambler 51 is 40ish and there is already alot of toe bite if im correct,

A new fork with toe clearance will mess up the geo prettybad.

How far are you from barspinning kyle?

pretty damn close, with 23c all i gotta do is throw my bars super hard, but then toe clearance is another problem, in order to do like a successful one if i could actually trick, cranks gotta be at like 1 o clock for like good clearence with clips and straps

Considering how long it has taken them to produce the Butcher, the CX frame (which would be my overall choice) probably won't come out until 2013! I don't plan on doing any tricks, I can barely stay upright as it is. I'll be using it for tooling around town and the such. Something different and fun aside from my road bike, mountain bike, and my sexy heavy beach cruiser. If my beach cruiser wasn't like a dump truck id consider riding it, but I don't want to ruin the custom paint job I did on it at work.

Noticed something on my scrambler, is this... ok? I think the frame came like this, don't know if its rust or just comes like that.

It's not supposed to come like that. Whether it's okay or not, I dont know. But mine didn't have that, however it did have one small paint chip on the frame, and one on the fork, but it wasn't anything I was worried, or cared about.

Surface rust will happen quickly on a raw steel frame, even if it's clearcoated.

You need something to seal the clear coat, as clear coat paints are often porous. I spent a day treating my raw frame (unpainted, no clear) with naval jelly, and immediately followed it up with a coat of carnauba wax. Wax isn't ideal, as it needs to replied fairly frequently (once every couple of months), but it should hold me over til the summer when I plan to get it powder coated.

That being said, you should contact Eighth Inch and see if they'll do something about that. I wouldn't be too pleased if I received a new frame with that much rust on it.

That surface rust on the frame tubing must have occured prior to application of the clearcoat. The clearcoat should seal the tubing and prevent oxidation (rusting) from exposure to oxygen in air and water.

Edit: based on yg's post, maybe not.

if you do upgrade the fork, buy it elsewhere - they'll charge you for it and you'll [quite possibly] never receive it.

I should reiterate that not all wet clears are porous. It just so happens that most clears are not made to seal over raw steel and won't adhere properly, though some are made to seal raw steels. It really depends on what brand/make Eighth Inch uses for their frames.

Unless the clearcoat is being applied in a magical place void of oxygen and all moisture, it will also seal in whatever moisture and oxygen are on the bare steel to begin with, causing surface rust to eventually form beneath the clear.

sorry for jacking your thread, just thought the eigthinch frames thread sounded most appropriate..

anyway, so what should i do? i'm going to contact them regardless, but do you think this is an issue where i should ask to return/get a replacement frame or do you think most likely that'll be a no go.

just mtfu/htfu?

edit/ just asked them if there's anything they can do, get reimbursed, receive a replacement frame or anything like that haha..

I'd be interested to hear what they said, maybe they'll throw in the money I gave them last year for a product they never gave me to help get you a replacement.

I got my girlfriend one of the scramble frames, really nice except for the fork that belongs on a rigid 29er.

Also the dropouts were bent kinda wacky, but straightened out after i torqued the hell out em.

To the above guy, I'm about to go back home tomorrow and send the frame back to eighthinch, they said they would give me a completely new frame of my choice, so I'll have a black scrambler coming soon.
