You definitely could.

The Beloved Morton. Only $4200 But if you act now, you can get the Rapha version for only $5200. Meanwhile, I want one of these frames for $350 http://rd.unrealcycles.com/catalog/u...acher_name.jpg http://rd.unrealcycles.com/catalog/item512.htm |
Probably safe to say that anything Rapha is less bang for the buck unless the stuff actually gets you laid nightly.
I could go for the Poacher also. I'd sure like to see a build with rims shallower than 30mm and plain black (or skinwall) tires. Someone get some Open Pros in this thing! |
I would say most conversions I see are pretty bad bang for the bike...they're fine if you're going to reuse most of the original parts but it seems like people end up just using the frame. My first fixed gear was a Panasonic Sport 1000 that I dumped too much money into...

WTF...$350 for a Poacher is a remarkable deal!
26.8 seatpost and 77mm BB drop is rather unfortunate though. |

Dude in this thread says his Poacher took a 27.2 post. I like his build a little better than the two other completes I saw on the internet, but I think I'd go with a less crusty parts mix.

EAI Superstar? I've got one of those. It's nice but it's a good thing I got it for free because I'd never pay that much.

If you're gonna go big with a fancy EAI cog, go all the way:

I'm crying at those prices.

correct. granted it should last longer than a cheap pressed cog but not for that price tag.

Yea, why the heck is that Kashimax frame protector $50?? Isn't it just a piece of springy metal with silicone around it? I can probably make one in my engineering lab for free.

Thing is, they are also more than twice the street price of Dura Ace cogs, which are totally excellent and very durable. I pay only $24 for Dura Ace cogs at World Class Cycles, and don't see any reason to pay more for something perhaps marginally better. It's the old case of the point of diminishing returns, where a major increase in cost yields only a marginal improvement in performance.

Not sure; but it was super high quality nonetheless, and it did in fact save my frame from dents when the bars swung and hit the frame unintentionally...

They look like Specialized knockoffs to me. Pumas on the otherhand are a little more recent design school graduate style. EDIT: Oh, Y'all are strictly talking website gaffes. NM. |
