Keep Me From Stealing

I still insist it's a crime and it is called stealing. What you are suggesting is we should steal any bike that is not moving for it to be free. Locating the owner would be easier than a trip to ur local cops. You may not believe in God but even by law it is wrong to steal.

Dude (or chick), read the whole thread. It's been discussed to death. Accept it or don't and move one.

This has been great reading so far guys, I too would be interested in seeing at least a digital pic of said bike in question....
a posted video clip of the liberation is of interest too...
I'm sure there are lots of us out there who commute in populated cities and have seen at least one or two bikes locked up somewhere, completely neglected and tickling our urge to come back with a set of bolt cutters to give it a new lease on life.....

Bikes: Custom Raleigh track steel, Ron Kitching frame, given a budget single-speed job, Saracen Nzyme frame with most components upgraded
what is it with three speed raleigh bikes? there are two that i have had my eye on for 9 months, one green one blue really skinny wire locks an all about 50m down the road from each other. where they are also happens to be on my weekly bar crawl route so i'm sure they're abandoned. however i'm still trying to get over the guilt and hot sweats i get when planning the liberation day.

Take it and this will be the begining to losing yours. Where are your morals - stealing should not be a consideration or even a subject to discuss. By the way my neighbour has never driven his car for last 3 months should I set it free too?

So, are you saying is that everything you buy/use/own/want has NO moral consequence whatsoever? And everything you do is without fault?
get a clue - read what has been said again - without the overbearing angel on your shoulder.

hmm... so should I return all the paper cups my workers
are throwing away outside? Are waste disposal workers just
robbing me blind? I knew the government was stealing from me.
So are we just borrowing America from the Native Americans?
the world isn't black & white. monochrome baby.
Don't forget to go slaughter the Chicago Bears they did
touch pigskin on sunday and they suck.

Bikes: A whole bunch o' bikes.
There is this crazy sweet cruiser bike that I have seen locked up and untouched at a pole in front of a row house in Toronto on my way to pick up my buddy from work. It is green with a tank, orange rims, single speed, some kinda "Tiki-God" ornament on the front fender and wide ass handle bars. It also has what looks to be a leather saddle of some sort.(I've never stopped to check it out, just driven by slowly). I have a serious lust for this bike! It has been sitting there for at least three years. Not only is the drive train rusted, but also the crank ring is rusted and so is the chain locking the bike to the pole. I've been wrestling with my morals over liberating this bike. It is going to ruin before my eyes.
I once found a bike in front of my doctor's office on my way in. It was a strange little bike that must of had a bananna seat on it at one time, but now has a brooks type saddle. It was all in peices(front tire off the rim, flat and off the bike, back tire off the rim, flat and off the bike) and lying on the sidewalk. The chain guard is rusty and the ape-hanger handle bars are also rusty. The fenders are also rusted a bit. It was lying abandoned on the sidewalk in front of the doctor's office. On the way in, I saw it and said to myself, "That thing is abandoned. If it is still there when I get out of the doctor's office, I'm gonna grab it and take it home for the kid." Sure enough, an hour later, I came out and it was still there. Now it resides in my garage, waiting for the kid to grow up enough to ride it.
After I took it, I felt some remorse about it. I tried to justify it to myself, but I still feel kinda guilty about it. I fixed it all up and it's ready to ride. I worried about Karma and all, but I guess I don't need to worry about it anymore, I'm getting laid off soon, that should take care of my bad Karma for a while.
I had a point for this post when I started, sorry about that. I guess the point would be take the bike if you know it's been abandoned. It would suck to have a bike taken just because you left it somewhere too long.
Sooooooo, should I grab that green bike, or what?

That green one is the Dyno Taboo Tiki. I don't know much more about it other than they were something of a limited edition or at least aren't made anymore.

To which we're supposed to ask, "the bike or the chick?" And you would say, "oh, I suppose the bike's ok too."

I'm married, so I'd have to take the bike. The wife doesn't like competiton from the ladies. She does, however, tolerate the fact that my garage has turned into a bicycle harem over the past couple of years.

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.
Seemed mostly on topic to me... At least as on topic as this board ever is...
There was a fixie with bullhorns that didn't move for two years on my commute. Now it's gone. I think the person that was riding it just didn't care about the rust and weather, and always parked the same way. I thought of liberating that bike, and now I think it's a good thing that I didn't. I wouldn't have worried about karma, because I've had every bike that I've ever owned has gotten stolen (up until this one, and that still might happen) since I learned to ride.

And here i thought this whole discussion was about stealing pie.
I guess its problem in some areas, then again so is stealing bikes.
