Spent 18 years in biotech; started in R&D, moved to scale-up production specialist, spent the last 5 years in engineering. Realized I couldn't stand the field any more, so I took 3 months off to decide what to do next.
Now I work in tech support for a fitness equipment company. I don't hate my job, I'm not (as much of) a dick when I come home, and I get to ride my bike more.

"Stink Eye Recipient" is an outstanding job! Did you have to do post-grad for that? :D

As for me, I'm an Environmental, Health and Safety Consultant...but because of ^^^, I'm considering a career-change.

Unfortunately, it's volunteer work. If I ever get a paying gig in that field, I'll be set for life.

Seems like a change for the better. More time ride is more time to think and sort it out, best of luck.

ive been an automotive technician for an audi dealer in toronto for the past 8 years. interprovincial licensed[gov] for six years, audi certified for six, expert level cert for the past three. i'll be a master guild audi tech next year at age 32. then i have absolutely nowhere to go career-wise. my shop foreman is going to retire but our lead tech is the same age as me[youth takeover in a few years all the old dudes are retiring] and he would become the new foreman. i most likely stand to become the lead tech but then thats it, i'll never put on a tie.

i currently have an offer of employment from another car company that sounds interesting but is a scary move considering they are a small company and the product they make is electric. add to that the job security i have currently plus the best team of co-workers and its a hard decision - even when they are offering +$10k more yearly salary[as opposed to the flat-rate system im currently on]

'fortune favors the bold' so we'll see in the next few months.

... a lot of you are students, at 32 am i kinda an 'old man' in here? i know there are a couple real old guys but seems the average age in here might be no more than 25.

soyboy 01-23-11 08:10 AM

i produce events, it's not exciting except that i don't work most days, i spend my real time painting and making music, on a regular basis i get breakfast with my best friends and then we spend the afternoon playing music, life's not bad...
