Rear Hub for Surly Cross-Check

Rear Hub for Surly Cross-Check
What are some recommendations for a fixed hub that will fit the wide spacing of the Surly Cross-Check frame? My LBS is telling me that I have to use the White Industries ENO.

Bull. Tell them to put some spacers on the hub axle, beneath the lock nuts, they may need to replace the axle with a wider one. Or if you're daring, you can cold set the frame down to 120mm and use it without spacers.

Why would you run a Surly hub on a Surly bike?
And I think my Surly was 120mm, which probably wouldn't work on one of the Surly MTBs...
I'd go with spacers. Not sure if I'd let the LBS put them on or not...

"Our Gnot-rite spacing (132.5mm) allows either 130mm road or 135mm MTB hubs (this is in regards to the dropouts on the Cross Check)."
That being said:
"We also make a 120mm spaced rear and a 135mm spaced rear with freewheel threading on one side and fixed gear/lockring threading on the other (this is in regards to the Surly hubs)."
Why pay for an ENO when there is a more frugal and suitable option?

Interesting. I'd still go with a spaced up track hub so that if I ever got a frame with true track spacing, I could respace it and fit in in there. Go with a 130mm flip-flop and you can only do road conversions (which may be just fine with you, I don't know).

The more options, the better, IMHO.

Another vote for the Surly hub w/130 spacing. Get the fixed/fixed version and you will still be able to fun a freewheel if needed/wanted.

Does your crosscheck have vertical dropouts? If so then they are heading in the right direction. I just checked the Surly web site and the crosschecks there have a horiz dropout but I swear I've seen them with a vertical one. I could be wrong.
