I can't laugh any more...
at the people who occasionally post, mostly on the road forum, that they fell while stopped and clipped in
I went to practice track stands and riding backwards at my local empty parking lot and got tagged if you will, a slight bit of road rash on the knee. Ok so I made my mixture half water and a little Jameson because I know the score... But alas it had nothing to do with it. It only made me get up for more... The problem is I can stand while standing on the pedals no problem, but I cannot stand while seated. I had my toe straps loose but at this one moment I thought I could pull through the reverse thrust force necessary to over come balance. I was wrong but I am a better man. How does one lock there wheel sideways sitting in there saddle and still maintain the mental faculty of balance whilst drinking a beer?

One thing that helps me is to look forward and not down at the bike. Your body actually knows what to do but your head is confusing it. I try to look at least 2 to 3 lights ahead and I have no problem trackstanding. My biggest issue is finding the sweet spot in traffic but once there no problems, I can stay there all day. Drinking does also help.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who goes out and practices track stands a little tipsy. You get to be much more chill and fluid (which is just another way of saying sloppy).
Usually my biggest problem with a track stand is if I've been sprinting and have to come up short. I'm totally juiced and have to do a lot of little adjustments because my muscles are still very twitchy.
As for standing while seate (?), I find that it's useful to start out standing over the front axle where I'm strongest and then back onto the saddle, maintaining balance the whole way. I can do this one handed, too, so the drink should be safe.

I found the same thing. Everything I'd read said it's easier to learn to trackstand whilst standing, I found the opposite to be true. I'm much more comfortable seated...
