Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Singlespeed- Track or Road wheels?

I am buying a set of wheels but it seems like there is more bang for my buck on Ebay if i go with road wheels. Im building a predominately single speed bike because i already have a dedicated fixie. Should i but a track wheelset or convert a road set w/ spacers? any ideas? Looking at Velo's or road price equivalent.

If you don't care about ever riding fixed, and they're not going on a track bike, then go with the road wheels.

A rear wheel built around a dedicated single speed hub, all other things being equal, should technically be stronger than a dished road wheel. It's not like modern road wheels are exploding all over the place (R-sys excluded, ha), so get whatever floats yer boat.

Better to put a couple spacers on a freehub than to re-dish a wheel, amirite? Besides, wheelsets can be found cheap, regardless of the hub type.

It will be easier that way, yes, but a road wheel with a Freehub will also be dished by nature.

By "track" wheels i imagine you mean tubulars? Regardless, fixed wheelset or wheelset with spacers, either one will be fine for a singlespeed.
