My All-City ring was affordable and very round. Thick and well-made too.

And of course, my high end track rings (Sugino 75, Omnium) are super round and most excellent.

The Salsa rings I've used on single speed mtbs and my 'cross bike are plenty round and well-made.

Perfect roundness doesn't exist.

Generally, though, expensive equates to more round and inexpensive to less round.

The match up between the crank and the chainring can also influence roundness.

I've heard good things about Blackspire.

I have a Sugino 75 track chainring that, round or not, I consider an engineering work of art.

A lot of money for pretty.

Or you could just get a NOS Campagnolo crank set at your bike junk yard!

wait that's right not every city has one of those.

$40.00 seems pretty cheap to me and I'm sure Campy rings will out live most of my other components.

Which BCD of All City are you using? 144?

I am thinking of picking up an All City 144 ring, unless I can find one that is rather affordable.

I have had round rings from sugino, fsa, kazane, and sram thats all I have owned unfortunately can't speak to anything else

I've had a 44t Sugino Messenger ring that was pretty round and a 48t Omnium ring that is very round. The stock aluminum crap on my Motobecane Track was tolerable.

I've owned two BREV M rings (1/8 130BCD) and both are quite far from being round. The crank spider itself might be off center as well.

One determines roundness of a chainring from tight and loose spots in the chain during pedal rotation.

However, even if one had a perfectly round chainring (doesn't exist), one would still have an out of round cog, an out of round hub, an out of round crank star, an off-center bottom bracket spindle, a set of unsquare or unparallel dropouts, and a misaligned bottom bracket shell.

One reduces tight and loose spots in one's chain by throwing money at it or by accidentally getting fairly round, properly centered and properly aligned components.

If one has his chain too tight, it might seem as if one has no tight and loose spots, but, in reality, the frame and components flex to accomodate the constant change in tension.

Loosen your chain until you have visible slack, and then slowly rotate your pedals and watch the slack come and go.

Sheldon Brown's chainring adjusting method will help a little, but only a little.

I also bought a surly (stainless steel) that was noticeably off round. Boo!

I can't speak for FKMTB, but my All-City crankset just arrived. Gonna go to the LBS tomorrow to put her on. I got the 144 BCD, 165mm set.

Found a rocket ring at LBS. Very round espc given the price. But it looks disgusting with the other tabs hanging down as others have noted

I've had great luck with Vuelta 130bcd chainrings. They're getting harder to find now though.

I am planning to get one of these at a shop near my house, but I am not sure of the quality of this. Any feedbacks?

I've seen 7075 FSA rings cheaper than that. But I guess shipping to Canada would kill the deal, huh?

The chainring will only be $34 dollars Canadian and I haven't seen any FSA or Miche in that price range with the tooth count I want.

I'm about to order a Surly stainless steel chain ring. Good choice?

Surly's products overall are of good quality, therefore the price; not that many ppl use their chainrings however...
