I'm almost positive that the National Geographic pic is Swiftcurrent Lake in Glacier National Park, right by where I worked. The whistlepigs (ground squirrels) up there don't play. No fear when it comes to food theft.

Same here, they will come up to you on the sidewalk even if you don't have food. Occasionally ducks from the river will be on the sidewalk too
