Options for extending a mushroomed chain?
What are my options for extending a chain by a link or 2? I kind of forgot the fact that I'm currently residing in a more hilly area than home and I broke my chain for smaller cogs. And I would rather keep using this nicer chain. A smaller chaining would not be a good option.

Yes, as in mushroomed pins (look it up).
The standard 710 is mushroomed as well...just heavy as an aircraft carrier.

Do you think a half link would do the trick? As I'm currently running a 17T cog and I want to swap it out for a 18T cog which I'll have to order; and there's only very little space left before the axle touches the inner end of the track end; it seems like a tight squeeze to me; but do you think it'll fit without any chain modification? (I'm just asking for when wore comes to wore lol)

But do you think I'll even need a half link in the first place? I'm just asking for when worse comes to worse....
I'll have to measure how much space I have left in the track end with the 17T in. But once again it seems like a 18T should fit, but I have a nagging feeling that it won't....

How much room do you have in your dropouts? When I switched from a 17 to an 18, I added a halflink and it put my axle only a hair or two further back from where it was.

As if worse did come to worse, I was planning to just get the izumi half link, as it is easier to acquire.

The saying that a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link is very true. Why would you put a low quality half link on a high quality chain?

doesnt popping mushroomed pins in and out weaken the pin? At least its not good for it, thats why chainbrakers dont like pushing them through. I would track down the proper quick link for it.

From my understanding you can't safely use the chain after replacing a once taken out link from a mushroomed rivet chain.
