Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Also - we want to open up a proper, kick ass shop and that definitely isn't happening in these parts.
I grew up in western mass and moved back there after college. It is a great place geographically but after two years I had to get back up here to Vermont. Western Mass/north western CT was sucking the life out of me, lot of middle class white kids turning into heroin addicts it's sad. Moving up here, I reallly believe, saved my life.

This thread kicks butt!

Confessions:

-I probably spend an average of 2.5 hours a day reading through BFSSFG.

-I rarely post even though I have opinions about much of what I read.

-Though its very convenient, getting a new job 1 block from my apartment blows, it's drastically reduced the amount of riding in my life.

-I sold 2 of my fixed gear bikes early this spring & converted the remaining one to a "coasty". Currently fixieless.

-Within the last 24 hours I ordered; frame, fork, pedals, pedal straps, handlebars, bottom bracket, chain, headset spacers & a set of tires, to build a new fixed gear bike.

You think the greater Boston area sucks? Try moving to the Springfield/Hartford area, full of suck. I mean there are tons of cyclists, if you count stuck up a-hole roadies.

Oh I know! I've got a few friends out in Springfield and get out that way every now and again. I hate that town.

Luckily I'm far enough away into the hills to not have to deal with BS.

Where at? I grew up over near westfield/southwick. Springfield is a dump but Holyoke is where the trouble is really at.

it would explain the big smile on her face, seems legit.

Southwick, right on Lake Congamond. There is a bike trail that runs from Simsbury into Westfield now that's a few hundred feet from my house, I like to cruise up and down it on the fixed. I save the "hills" into Granville and Tolland for the geared bikes.

So my confession for this post is I like to cruise the MUP on my sweet fixie and sup the hot chicks that walk/run it.

I was pretty confident I'd be test riding and - here's the confession - likely buying my first ss/fg this weekend but I guess not. Turns out those "unsellable" tiny frames (43cm in this case) that most LBSs refuse to stock sell out in like one week at the one shop that does carry them. Part of me wants to LOL, the other part of me wants to yell at people.

There are bikes I wouldn't buy just because I think they have silly names - such as: Nature Boy, Cream City, Sweet City, Smoothie...

Bikes with cool names - Bare Knuckle, Godzilla, Master Piu (reminds me of the blind dude on Kung Fu)

oh man I grew up in Granville! Gnarliest hills around, I live right over the top of the big hill in the center of town going down that thing on a huffy when you're 10 was instant bamf status. I grew up racing enduro's/harescrambles and granville is a great dirt bike town. southwick highschool '04 woot! when were you there?

Confession: I only bought a bike because I don't live somewhere where I can have a dirt bike right now. It is not nearly as much fun. Also i think mountain biking is lame unless its downhill. It's like what we do racing trails except in slow motion boooorinngggg

It depends on the build. It you're going for a real sporty tarked out bike, fenders will look like crap.

I was awake. Then I completely crashed and got a couple hours of sleep before work.
Expect a detailed, picture heavy post. It was one of those awesome nights I can talk about here without fear of a ban hammer or legal ramification.
