Ha
well, I'll still have a front brake. I just want to see how well rotafix holds up since it no longer matters if I screw the fixed gear side of my hub.

I need to stop messing with my bikes, I keep breaking stuff.

No cause then you can fix it and buy better stuff with a better conscience.

I really want to try a Brooks saddle but don't want to fork over the dough :[

+1

If you plan on riding for any real distance, the seat is the one thing you shouldn't cheap out on.

You can get used leather saddles for reasonable prices. There are other options besides Brooks that can be more/less expensive, depending on the brand. I got a "used" b17 that'd never been ridden or put on a bike for $90. Not bad considering they're $120 new. Not to mention it's easily the most comfortable saddle I've ever used.

jdgesus 05-11-11 11:36 PM

the velo-orange "knock off" saddles are really great.
about 30% less then brooks.

as do I, but they don't offer enough set back for me

dk2ck 05-12-11 12:37 AM

I'm pretty sure if I ever get a Brooks, I'll get it off Wallbike. Even though they're more expensive than the Velo Orange versions, the 6-month return policy is pretty great.

Butthash 05-12-11 04:53 AM

I also wanna try a Brooks for I hear they are quite comfortable, however I try not to buy leather, don't wanna spend the money, and don't particularly find them attractive on many bikes.

this, they tend to stand out and look out of place on 90% of the builds I have seen.

Grivooga 05-12-11 06:51 AM

Selle Anatomica fits the lines of a racier looking build a lot better than a Brooks and is arguably better. Still looks a bit out of place on a very modern looking bike.

I agree. Contemporarily-styled frames and Brooks look strange together. All my bikes are from the 70s/80s, though, so the Brooks look as good as they feel.

Fantana 05-12-11 01:25 PM

When I 1st started looking at bikes I had no idea about sizing and bout a bike too small... on an impulse I found a Peugeot I REALLY liked and bought it thinking it was going to be my size, turned out to be too big.
So now I feel like Goldie Locks trying to find the "just right" size, except now I'm not buying another bike and going to make the smaller one work for me.

EssEllSee 05-12-11 01:26 PM

I tend to look at bikes I see while riding around town more than girls :(

Cynikal 05-12-11 02:07 PM

I think I'll go home and put my risers back on. I miss the hipster hybrid thing.

UCF Eric 05-12-11 03:04 PM

I went riding with a girl around my neighborhood yesterday and did a skid just because it made me feel cool....

ImChris 05-12-11 03:53 PM

After leaving some bars in Madison, i bombed some of the smaller hills and did some skids kicking out my back tire. For a second, I felt like Emi...

avner 05-12-11 03:57 PM

I asked a girl out to the Prom ride tonight just so I could have someone to wear the cogsage I was making for it.

avner 05-12-11 04:35 PM

Also, I downed an entire full throttle and I'm too wired to focus at work.

zoltani 05-12-11 04:56 PM

sure a brooks may look weird when doing photo shoots with your bike, but when you are actually riding and your ass is covering it, who cares?

Sorry but this made me laugh, and i already laughed at people who consider taking pics of their cars "photo shoots"

zoltani 05-12-11 05:23 PM

it was meant to be snarky

Fantana 05-12-11 05:31 PM

Well then, good job.
Also when you said "Snarky", my mind went to:

I've read on the forum and heard among cyclists that a used Brooks saddle would be molded to someone else's anatomy, and wouldn't be a good investment. Seems like a good idea to me, if the saddle's got just a few miles on it.

Scrodzilla 05-13-11 11:39 AM

If a Brooks only has a few miles on it, it's not broken in.

jdgesus 05-13-11 12:11 PM

<3 brooks saddles.

WUT?

It just happened to you.

The Design uses tubes that were not repairable in to hold two pieces of chain across the cog, and then wrap behind the bands holding the chain on the cog as a way to prevent direct metal or thin pieces of taut tubing from putting pressure on the skin. Then a piece of tubing is split and tied to either side of the cog to create the band that holds it onto ones wrist. In this particular picture it was on my wrist. I was originally going to use a hot glue gun to achieve many of these things but I was unable to use one due to time/movement constraints. I was also originally going to tie a fresh flower between the two chain pieces but as I was getting ready to leave the Oven I had an idea for using a tube to create the flower. In a flash of inspiration which I gave myself a little pat on the back for I took a thin 700c tube and cut a flower and put it under the chains. I was really excited about how well it came out, despite how badly the ride went. Looks a good deal better in person, especially from a direct view.
