Confessions thread!

Alright, this is a dumb idea, but I'm house-ridden with nothing better to do, so I'm going to give it a try!
Basically post corny things regarding bikes (SSFG or not) that you like/have on your bike, or have liked in the past, and people will likely hate for.

Alright, me first:
I LOVE(some) colorful bikes, and I do so because I think people sometimes need color in their lives, especially in foggy, bland, depressing cities and towns (like Eureka). I do however think some people go way overboard and hipster trash them as well though.

I also SOMETIMES rock a TT pad because I'm a hemophiliac and often climb stairs, leaving me with shoulder bruises from carrying my bicycle.

rustybrown 03-27-11 10:10 PM

I want an arrospok for the summer.

I hear ya, this bike would look pretty cool coming out of a fog.

can someone explain why people do that small pad thing on the top tube.

i know a lot of hipsters use full pads over the top tube because it carried over from the bmx bikes from the 90's, but what does that small little thing do?

no scratching or denting tt when drops swing all the way around

bentchamber 03-27-11 10:33 PM

Its for the track: If you crash then your drops won`t dent your TT. Or thats what it is attempting to do.

my confession: I see dead people.

that gif. is not amusing.

cc700 03-27-11 11:05 PM

if you crash on the track a 1/4" piece of foam is not going to keep your bars from denting your tt. crashing is way more serious and sometimes dents and sometimes doesn't. usually it dents when the rest of the bike stays in tact.
the long pads aren't for that, that's what a small wrap of tape or a kashimax tt protector is for.

it's for when the bike is hung up or tilted when held by the saddle and the bars can whip around on uneven ground or just from being tilted. and

... the whole tt tube wrap is for locking up against hard posts or poles.

This makes sense.

This doesn't.

I love bikes that are too expensive or high quality for their purpose. i can't justify a tk2 for riding to work but i want to. want to want to.

i love bright colors too if they're coordinated. that fog bike is tasty.

i love riding a bike somewhere just to sit and sip coffee with it leaning against the cafe table. yes, it's a fashion accessory in that moment. yes, it's way more than that when you're on it. yes, i love it for both of those reasons.

yes, i am attracted to girls that ride fast bikes just for that reason.

yes, totally into silly **** like made up labels and jokes like AYHSMB and my "bianchai" stickers.

yes, i totally want a pair of clincher 808's to ride on because they look sweet. i want to race on a track, but i don't need 808's in any sense of the verb.

yes, i think a brake totally makes a track bike look like ****.

yes, i like blowing through lights when it's reasonably safe to do so.

yes, i'm ashamed that i don't bomb hills with more speed. yes, it's because i'm scared of falling.

yes, i love cars and bikes and would probably have and drive a fast car if i could afford it.

yes, i like NJS parts on steel track bikes. not because it's njs, but because it's classy.

yes, i think conversions are total bull****. i'd much rather see a nicely done average gruppe vintage road build than even the nicest of conversions. i'd rather see someone pay for a kilo tt and put stickers all over it than do the environmentally thoughtful thing of converting a junky bike that they'll ride because they want a fixed gear. god dammit road bikes need gears.

ScottRock 03-27-11 11:34 PM

To be a contributor, and not just purely a dick: I want flowers on my bike. Like a decal. Red and white roses, a chain, along the whole top tube (black bike). I also dig me some headbadges

Damn, talk about coming out of the cyclist's closet!
I am with quite a bit of those though.
Girls, Colors, Brakes(in some cases), stoplights/signs, etc.

calv 03-28-11 12:02 AM

I like deep V's because the colors, but I couldn't justify buying them over cheaper and just as effective wheels.

I really should learn how to do a lot more things on my own for my bike, I don't go to the LBS often if you can say at all, but I have a lot of down time on my bike because I don't have proper knowledge about fixing stuff, or the right tools lol.

hairnet 03-28-11 12:35 AM

Fixed is broken

Thirteen. 03-28-11 12:52 AM

- I'm always in a constant debate with myself on whether or not to buy a Cinelli Vigorelli and Sram Omniums for a new build even though my current IRO functions just fine.

Squirrelli 03-28-11 01:25 AM

I agree with a lot of cc`s confessions. kewl story braaah

I like 144BCD cranks and chainrings.

I think track drops are sexy.

I like watching my friends trick around; its not like the tricks wow me or anything, but the dedication and effort they put into accomplish this or that is amazing.

I like looking at my bike.

I will sit on your wheel if I can, then pull off without you.

I would like to ride on the track more often, but it`s expensive. I do like the fact that it is indoor, steep, wood, but getting there kind of sucks.

I think bikes that belong on the track should be clipless, and be on the track.

I like my IRO a lot.

I as well my friend....I would bring my bike to bed if it wasn't so uncomfortable.

What do you mean you will sit on a wheel if you can, then pull off without them?

cc700 03-28-11 01:50 AM

like draft off another rider for as long as possible to conserve energy then pull away after passing so they can't do the same.

Yup. I only do it among friends though, it's a total faux-pas to do it to strangers.

LupinIII 03-28-11 02:01 AM

I badmouth aerospokes in hopes of driving the price down on them so i can pick one up for a hundred dollars like my friend got.

I like deep vs, h+sons, and b43s. the open pro/box section bandwagon only works for one in ten bikes i see it on. deep section rims just look cool

njs is still awesome

my iro 29er is too small for me, but i don't want to admit it because it's fun as hell to ride

i'm building my continuum with a coaster brake. dgaf what others say

i'm happy fixed as a fad is dying, parts are getting cheaper and cheaper by the week.

brakeless isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. however paying for fix it tickets still sucks.

people asking repetitive questions about aesthetics still pisses me off. beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

i didn't get accepted for a job opening at the on campus bike shop. friends who work there think it's because i put on the application that I have "fixie experience" and twist spokes all day. really though, i'm hella better at fixies than 90% of their employees (I'm okay with kevin and jon though)

also cc, what size tk2 you lookin for? I have a friend who's trying to sell a frameset i think, he was diagnosed with a heart condition and can't really ride. no clue what he wants for it though.

cc700 03-28-11 02:08 AM

damn. sorry to hear.

i just bought a bike so i can't really buy a tk2 unless i sell the bike i just bought. plus shipping is *****kill.

LupinIII 03-28-11 02:15 AM

WILLING TO TRADE FOR MANY AAROSPOKS

wtf capslock blocker

HFTB 03-28-11 04:58 AM

I fell the first day wearing the Retrogression straps, left foot out, i forgot i still had my right foot in and tried to walk bending my ankle and falling with the bike still strapped to me. It knocked my right brake out of place and a scratch or two on the frame..

vw addict 03-28-11 05:47 AM

I'm too scurrred to take off my front brake, even though I use it almost never, I just like knowing its there.

HandsomeRyan 03-28-11 05:53 AM

I wish I hadn't sold my other tt lever because if I still had it i'd be running front and rear brakes on my fixed gear instead of just front.

aww dude usually i agree with you fully but im going to just say that conversions are not BS. bull**** conversions are BS.

i rode an old vicini conversion that had more aggressive angles, a shorter wheelbase, higher build quality, made of better materials than 90% for the 'track bikes' currently available for under ~$600 and i had less than $300 into it.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with a nice bike converted to ss/fg. it is not wastefull. the bike has been modified for use by the owner and if its being ridden, thats a great thing.

Retem 03-28-11 09:36 AM

I have one of those persistance of vision light things made by bell they sell at walmart makes my wheel say various things.

I often rage on this forum and feel the need to comment on things that I read to you know interject some common sense
