The wind did help today, unintentionally chased down and passed a prius today.

Cliff, Jaytron, Danvuquoc, TheRealFaux, and some other buddies. Was good. Now we're binge eating tacos and drinking many beers. Good times. I don't ride south of San Bruno on the weekends all that often and it was great riding with Jaytron, it had been too long. Here wer are looking really cute: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...93543943_n.jpg (I'm the bearded one) |
Today I rode to the store for some blueberries and left my wallet at home and had to make the trip twice in the cold like an idiot.

are you a "sneakerhead"?
I'm still "living" off of shoes that I purchased before 2005. I think I've purchased 2-3 pair of sneakers in the past 7 years. |

My brother has a storage room full of J's. Whenever his expenses catch up with him, he throws a pair on eBay.

It all makes so much sense now. He's also a very good photographer! Hipster Carleton!

And I wasn't even that bad compared to people I worked with. Storage units with boxes in the 100's, none of them ever worn. Humans are crazy. |

Are you serious? Haha, I never would have guessed. I was in the same boat when it came to basketball shoes and stuff. I used to work for Nike, so the discount helped a lot.

I wonder if the selection is better here than other places. Any idea? I never got into sneaker forums. I didn't really get into the hype and lusting thing. I never (except maybe once or twice) paid over MSRP for kicks. I felt that the best part of the "game" was to find the kicks at a reasonable price. I never did ebay etc. I always bought locally...even if I had to drive 100 miles to some mom & pop skate shop to find something. My collection is at its end now. I think I have 2-3 fresh pair left. Maybe I'll start buying stuff again...maybe. |

Man, when I look back at what I was doing, it was like a sickness. At least I USE the bike parts I buy now, and it serves a healthy purpose. I had like 50 pairs just sitting in my closet. I have a lot of thoughts about the whole sneaker industry, it's pretty damn disturbing.

I once went to a club wearing some first generation DQM Bacons (Air Max 90). It blew the minds of 2 dudes who couldn't believe that I actually wore them...to a club no less. "OMG!! YOU are so gangster!!!" I didn't care. I didn't worship shoes. I bought them to wear, not to take photos of them to post to the internets. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4062/...095e6bc183.jpg (Not my pic. From google.) |

The good stuff is going to sell quick, but now the market is super over-saturated. I started getting out when they started House of Hoops and player editions/limited releases. People sleep outside of stores for days and riot and even kill people over some "limited" sneakers. And Nike could avoid all of that by just releasing more product, but resellers build connections and flip shoes on ebay for way more than retail. Nike knows exactly what they are doing with their marketing and limited retros of certain shoes. I feel you though, I rarely ever paid retail for a shoe and to be honest, a lot of the retro product (especially Jordan) is terrible in quality. Air Max releases are usually okay because you can't have people's air bubbles popping, but other shoes were just a joke, but people still eat it up. I think the recent Lebrons were approaching $300. For a pair of basketball shoes? It's a slap in the face. |

It was interesting to look at the phenomenon, people getting addicted to posting pictures and getting comments/compliments from internet users. We see that a little on this forum sometimes. It's not necessarily wrong, I think the line between what we do because we like it and what we do because others will like it is sometimes very blurry. |

they are shoes... ment to be worn :| they encompass your feet. they are not vases or picasos.
the most ive ever paid for a pair of shoes was 120 and that was for my specialized elite touring clipless. I buy my shoes at ross. My next most expensive was a pair of kitchen shoes by crocks because i work on my feet. I do not understand paying ungodly amounts of money for shoes and not wearing them... or rarely wearing them... its like buying an 8 ball of blow and keeping it in a jar on your shelf.... |

I never got into sneakers...dress shoes on the other hand, I have about 12 pair. I think my most expensive I own are $300 John Varvatos wintips...however, I also make a living while in them, so theres that. |
I hope i dont offend anyone by saying this..
but i think the people who obsess over sneakers are pathetic. I work in a mall and almost every week, its the same group of trashy, disruptive idiots waiting behind a barrier for shoes they waste money on. the cops have to come and keep them in order so they dont charge the doors before exactly 9:00. By the looks of them most of them are probably surviving on ramen just to get next weeks pair of colorful sneakers. I dont understand what they think theyre accomplishing by buying sneakers and piling them in their closet, theyre sneakers ffs! god it gets me so angry. |
The most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought is a pair of Danskos back when I was in kitchens.
|
My most expensive shoes are my road shoes then followed by my shoes for the mtb.
|
Today I have been seriously debating selling my Kazane track frame and buying a Bianchi Super Pista. And I dont work this week cuz all the public schools are on break so its making it super difficult.

Today, I took full advantage of my president's day and went out for a early morning ride on a beautiful day. Potentially new bike day Tio. |
