Cheer up. Things could be worse. You'll live.

Finished cleaning and polishing this crankset today.

I used the same technique to polish both the crank arms and the chainrings (600d sandpaper, followed by 1000/2000 wet, then polishing compound and a cotton ball). For some reason the crankset got nice and shiny, and the chainrings got dull. I dunno what the hell is going on.

Oh, and here's a before picture of the chainrings...

28 years of grime. I'm not sure they've ever been cleaned.

Bfssfg I need your opinions.

On my local cl there is a yellow 1993 rb1 and the seller agreed to 500

Even at $500, that's steep. Ask around the Classic forum.

ddeadserious 02-23-13 10:50 PM

I disagree, check out these completed ebay listings:
Frameset for $550: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bridgestone-...item4d0984c23e
Complete for $637: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bridgestone-...item27ce6a1911

If it fits you, I think it's a good deal.

The RB1 is a cult bike.

striknein 02-23-13 11:12 PM

It's not a '93. 1993 RB-1/8 came with bar ends. Brifters came in 1994.

I wouldn't buy a complete RB-1 except as a collector's piece. That one ain't a concourse example. On the other hand, if a clean frameset came around for the right price...

yummygooey 02-23-13 11:13 PM

rb1 is nice, would ride

price isn't amazing but i think it's good enough if it fits and you like it

Alas it's a Japanese equivalent of a paramount

In that case, I would get it.

mconlonx 02-24-13 07:12 AM

Was seriously considering an ebay RB1, same color, minty condition, listed at $750.

Picked up a Waterford-built Paramount from the same era for $50 less.

$500 is a fair price for a collector bike like the RB1, but there are other bikes out there of similar quality for cheaper.

FakeFuji 02-24-13 09:11 AM

I know it isn't the best bike ever made, ill probably just make my kilo nicer than nagroms

Mumonkan 02-24-13 09:28 AM

Coffee date yesterday lasted four hours. Nonstop talking. Went amazingly well. And then she and I made plans for later that night because I had to run home to grab some stuff for a friend. Was a pretty good day overall. And then this morning I fried up some bacon for breakfast.

Not a bad weekend. Just too bad its so cold/wet that I can't get out on the bike.

I wish. She had some thing super early this morning for her sorority, so she ended up just going home.

SpeshulEd 02-24-13 12:13 PM

I dated a girl at CMU once...and in the long run she ended up marrying one of my buddies.

63_dorinte 02-24-13 01:16 PM

Today I:

Rode outside for the first time since December :o then came home and finished up on the rollers. It's still cold and windy here.

Yesterday Tiny Fix held a 10-hour bake sale fundraiser and we raised over $1k for a doored and hit&run cyclist. Article and pics (of me and my girls) about the bake sale here. Used a Square reader for the first time to take credit cards - what a cool product. We live in the future, y'all.

The bike shop where we held the bake sale gave me 20% off that awesome cool cinelli kaleidoscope bar tape (I think someone here has it?) and a new chain for my hybrid so I can sell it.

Today I am catching up on household chores and painting. Verrrry slowly getting the house ready to sell.
