Do you deal with QBP, Scrod? I ordered a Dimension compact drop with the flat tops and I am curious how they are compared to some of the big brand stuff. Someone came to the co-op with a 3ttt Ergonova, so feeling that prompted me to go for compact drops w/ flat tops
|
The Dimension stuff is pretty damn good considering the cost. There are a few sets of compact drops hanging on the wall at the shop and even though I've never ridden with them, they look and feel decent.

They really do. I never really even considered them until Angie got Wing Pros for her 721. I stole them for a day and even though they were a little too small (38cm), I was in heaven. Even without hoods, they're awesome.
I dig compact bars. I have them on both my road and track bikes. On the track bike when I don't need sprint bars. |

But people with super wide shoulders need wider bars. |
How much saddle/bar drop do you have on your Tarmac, Carleton? For a long time I have been content with the Ritchey ergo bars (none of my bars were bought new, so I have dealt with what I can get) on my road bike. This weekend, after two long rides, I said **** it. I hate these bars, they just dont work for lots of saddle/bar drop.

Actually 38cm bars may not bee so bad. I remember Carleton saying that he went from some bars in the low 40 cm'ers to 38 or 39 cm bars and it really helped him.
But people with super wide shoulders need wider bars. It was like riding this all day long http://www.asprocket.com/home/wp-con...handlebars.png |
No brakes or foot retention and suicide bars.
Plus the frame is too small for them. But seriously. Narrow bars aren't for everyone. I prefer slightly wider bars but that's just me. |
Today I got a proper ride in with the new front wheel. Much better.

Today I scored a bunch of parts I was looking for all at once... have been rebuilding my UAV into a fully geared trekking / touring / commuter and wanted to bring the bike back fairly close to stock and scored the right crank and rear derailleur and recently found an NOS stock wheel set and shifters.
Got everything installed and the bike is just purring along like it was brand new... and it is nearly 25 years old. |

The camera angle makes the bars/hoods look like they extend A LOT further than they really do. They really only extend maybe 2-3CM over the hub. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6069/...f0275b17_z.jpg BTW, the bars are Zipp Service Corse SL "Short and Shallow" 40cm http://www.competitivecyclist.com/im...011/ZIP202.jpg |
dammit I've never owned a pair of compact drops and now guys all have me itching to try some.

today I didn't look at the weather report before heading out. got caught in some rain all the way to class. when I showed up it looked like someone had thrown me in a pool. of course on campus it was a very light shower so nobody understood why I was so effing wet.

today is the first happy thursday ride of the semester, so.. happy thursday!
|
Actually it is spot on for anyone in NYC, I think Google changes the start location depending on where the person is? In any case, I edited the original post.
|
Finally took my old wrecked road frame to the LBS to take the crankset/BB and headset off. Also got a car wash.
EDIT: Bought a Calv jacket from Scrod as well. |
First post.
Installed new bullhorn and new tape, so far seems much more comfortable. Looking forward to my commute in the morning. |
Changed my first bicycle tire(s). New gatorskins courtesy of the awesome pbk deal.
|
wish that pbk deal also stocked x28s. I've been riding the crap out of my gskins and still have yet to get a flat. I may never switch to another tire. already regret buying the vittoria for my rear on the leader
|
Awwwwwwwww yyyyyyyeeeeeeeaaaa. Today is awesome. New frame/fork/chain came in 2 days early :)

Today I started the process of wearing myself out so there is absolutely no excuse to ride on Sunday. Don't want to get caught in a hurricane.
|
been rocking the 40cm ergonova's + tektro hoods for about half a year. its great. wish the drops extended a bit more though.

Today I received my bullhorns and tape in the mail. I have to say I'm impressed with the Nashbar bullhorns. Thought they were gonna be cheap but they're great. They look a lot like the Profile Design Airwing OS, but with less horizontal reach.
