This is nuts.

At first I thought you said you were joking about opening a restaurant that would treat people like ****. Was very confusing.

So I assume you're going to do it?

Today I did a nice and easy 25 mile ride, hung out with some buddies, had hot pot and ran some school-related errands.

Muffin Man 01-16-12 10:42 PM

Hot pot ♥

Sorry. There's a joint in town that treats their bands and customers like ****. There's also an empty bar/venue sitting about a block away. We want to provide some competition.

Yeah, I'm gonna try. A brewer I know wants to make beers with/for us too. This is taking off more quickly than I could've hoped.

yummygooey 01-17-12 12:00 AM

Decided to purchase the Park Tool TS-2.2 soon!

hamfoh 01-17-12 12:50 AM

having a work stand after working on a bike 'rack' seemed like it might be similar but man it's world's apart and I love it. never worked at a shop or anything so having this stand finally is so damn great. don't know why I waited so long

also to the dude talking about restaurants. no business fails more than them, no business suffers more than them in their first few years. I know it's really exciting, but please have someone really really do the math and a really outline a business plan before jumping face first into it

jimmytango 01-17-12 01:28 AM

Ham, I've been a cook/chef in restaurants for most of my adult life. I'm in the process of opening one now actually. I know how it goes. I also know that most restaurant failures are due to a bunch of things that I'm going to be avoiding.

hamfoh 01-17-12 01:36 AM

just felt like I had to say that!

jdgesus 01-17-12 01:36 AM

hey man, if i can do it, anyone can...

jimmytango 01-17-12 01:42 AM

Ham, I appreciate it. I'm not usually the type to jump blindly. It's happened before, to mixed results. With something like this though, there's no way I would.

JD, you're a restaurant owner?

Also, remember that what I'm shooting for is more "21+ venue that serves food" than "restaurant that has music".

GMJ 01-17-12 02:26 AM

What kind of food do you plan on serving? Just curious.

Today I ran into what I considered to be my first real road rage incident. I was riding at a pretty decent pace and then notice there was a Blazer with its bumper like a foot from my back tire. I swerve left and just start yelling **** like "why are you so close to me" etc. He swerves over and the tail end of his SUV smoked my bars going at least 20-25mph. I got really squirrely and somehow kept it together. Then I saw him stopped at a light. I roll up to him and apologized about yelling, and then explained very calmly that he could've killed me. He starts apologizing, saying he was having a ****ty day of work and other things. Shook hands and I was on my way.

Sure, I could've rolled up and busted his window with a ulock or pulled him out and beat the poor dude to death, but I didn't. I figured next time he rolls up to a cyclist he might cool his jets a little, which would be best for all of us.

Bar food, just done really well. I have a fine-dining background, so some of that will come through simply because it's more difficult for me not to cook that way. I'm the kind of cook that makes everything hisself. I make my own ketchup, ya know?

That situation had potential to go very badly. I'm glad it worked out though.

cc700 01-17-12 02:48 AM

drooled like **** over some nishiki frames on ebay

hamfoh 01-17-12 03:36 AM

today some bro ran a redlight and almost took me with him. I think riding brakeless is a reason why I'm alive, because you definitely are much more aware of your surroundings when riding that way. I noticed it just turned green for me when I was approaching a light and glanced over as I would and saw a car still hauling ass. I was able to unclip and drag my foot in time to stop. he STILL didn't see me (was looking the other way). I stopped and put my hands in WTF mode in the air. decided to cut the ride short then. wet roads + 2am was a shaky combo already

Street rider 01-17-12 04:49 AM

Today I won a new snowboard! A market around here had a info-in-box raffle last semester, and today I got the call telling me I won. I'm super stoked because I never win anything.

yummygooey 01-17-12 09:01 AM

Today I am playing the first set I've played in two years (bass). I still have no song list and we will be practicing for an hour right before going live. Yikes.

Muscle memory?

misskaz 01-17-12 09:42 AM

Today I spent my first hour at work uploading logos for our bike gang website. tinyfixbikegang.com, people! :) Probably will be putting more finishing touches on it over the next couple days, but I'm too excited to wait any longer.

jimmytango 01-17-12 11:07 AM

I'm stoked. Cupcake's post is cute/funny. Kinda like she is.

I'd love to stop by if I ever ended up in Seattle!

Today on my commute in I spied what appeared to be a ~42" flat screen tv laying up on the shoulder of the road, no box or wires, just the tv. Then when I hit the greenway I saw a fuji tig welded "sx 600" mtn. bike just off the path, partially covered up with leaves. Didn't have time to check either out (other than the bike brand)...will investigate further on this afternoon's return trip.
