Instead, I gave him two of my three that I carry, a patch kit and my old Z pump that I wasn't going to use much (I don't ride my MB that much over my Devil).
Helped him replace his tube and made a note to grab some spare parts I have that were shot on his bike so next time I see him I can gift him some simple upgrades.

It made me think that I should go check this pawn shop up the road. They had a pretty basic lugged road bike there for $45, early 90s Bianchi. I might have to see if I can't build that cat a new steed to help him with his can collecting. He said he's riding upward of 20 miles a day to make about $5 a day. Ideas.

Dude probably won't like the road bike. I've been volunteering at a bike shop that supplies bikes to families in a shelter and the local homeless and road bikes are generally not wanted by can dudes. One guy was telling me he's chopping the bars on his sweet early '90s Specialized Allez! I tried to talk some sense to him but there's no stopping some people.

Anyways hook that dude up with some decent semi-slicks and Mr. Tuffies and he should be stoked. Performance has Forte Metro Road for $10. If you think he'd dig full slicks they got Slick City for $10 too, $8 clearance at my local.

He might like a trailer too if you find one for cheap.

Mr. Tuffies suck.
rhinodillos
12.99 on ebay.

LesterOfPuppets 03-03-12 11:02 PM

I kinda like my Mr Tuffies. I'm definitely game to check out the rhinodillos, though. Have a couple bikes in need of liners ATM.

That toothpick test is pretty corny.

whoa whoa whoa, that toothpick, is an apparatus. Didn't you read it?

They're also really light.

LesterOfPuppets 03-03-12 11:54 PM

Apparati rule! :)

Light is nice. I have a single Mr. Tuffy Ultralight I pulled from the junk tubes/tires bin at the LBS and that thing doesn't protect nearly as much as regular ol' Mr. Tuffies.

Deets to the metric if anyone is interested:

and a more relaxed 50miler that I'd like to try:

They are both BART to BART.

Today I: rode in the MASH SF TT race to NAHBS in Sacramento.

I placed 9th for individuals, 5min behind 1st. The next group to come in after our leadout was 15minutes back. Total of 17 teams, 51 people.

My teammate came in 5th. Unfortunately our 3rd teammate got dropped early on after I bridged a pretty big gap to the leadout group ~8 miles in. We thought he was behind us, but he took a wrong turn. After a phone call my teammate and I made the decision to stay with the lead pack and hope our 3rd teammate could catch up with the group he was in. Alas, that never happened and he ended up finishing 30 minutes after us. Our team placed 9th out of 17. Had he stayed with us, we would have been 2nd.

Kind of a bummer but oh well, it was a beautiful day, with strong riders, and my teammate and I lead a breakaway for ~5 miles and opened a gap of almost 4 minutes before the 'peloton' reeled us in.

p.s. I was running a 48T/16. Fixed of course. I'm going to go pass out now.

Today I (Yesterday) crashed my bike for the first time. Put some pressure on the pedals to slow down, shoe hit front tire, flipped over the bars and threw the bike over me like a soccer pass. Lil bit of road rash and fractured my femur at the hip joint. Pretty awesome day...

So... Today I sat on my couch all day, cleaned a little, and play TOR. Yay me....

adriano 03-04-12 12:27 PM

damn with that spooky.

Nagrom_ 03-04-12 01:17 PM

Today I (with the help of some friends) built a rear rack for my IGH cruiser, it looks pretty awesome and successfully can hold a person (or two). Paint in a few days!

I actually loved my Arione, used one for ~2 years.

When I came back from a break, my Arione just didn't feel the same anymore, couldn't find a comfortable spot, so I gave it up after a while.

Thanks, man! It was my first ever race and definitely the longest ride I've done on my fg. :)

Dannihilator 03-04-12 06:49 PM

Good 65 miles in today.

Jaytron 03-04-12 08:17 PM

technically the side with the model # faces out. It makes no difference in the ride. sorta like how your tires aren't aligned with your valve stems...

etiquette.
