After work today, I played around on a velodrome. Good times.

Hey, quick question: do I buy a track used TK3 for $550 (which includes membership to a velodrome and the ability to race with a team/club), or a brand new Fuji Track 1.0 for $680 + shipping? And no, it will not likely see much street use, before anyone asks. It may see some, but probably only to go to work for a tune-up.

The TK3 no question.

Team/track time will have infinitely greater benefits than any piece of equipment ever will.

Speaking of which I saw on my weekend roadie ride that they had changed up the livery:

I welcome the old cdale multiple logoing on the downtube but not so sure about the 10's on the chainstays and TT.

Nagrom_ 12-04-12 05:26 PM

Yeah... I don't know if I like it.

Also if you're interested in CAAD10's realized 2012 framesets are the same as 2013's.

Today i used my shiny object for the first time, this thing is cool.

...get it?

That's kind of the way I'm leaning, too.

You won't regret going CAAD.

Although the CAAD9's are awesome too.

The paint job on the 2013s are horrible IMO.

Today my sister asked my mom "If we were catholic would we be richer?". Holy **** I need to hurry up and get the **** out of here.

I've been wondering, after seeing the material switches y'all are making around here: Why go Alu over crabon? I just started roadie shopping/researching.

Nagrom_ 12-04-12 06:07 PM

CAAD10's are arguably the greatest aluminum road frames ever made.

High end alu > low end carbon

Makes sense. But is that the only reason? I'm a little conflicted about what frame material to go with. I've ridden Alu roadies, so I have no idea how carbon compares in terms of stiffness/responsiveness, even if its low end.

Adrian_ 12-04-12 06:15 PM

For me the biggest reason is durability. I went on a ride a while ago and crashed twice, only damage was a few paint chips. I can honestly say if I was on crabon i'd need to catch a ride home and buy a new frame/get it repaired.

I am currently on a chinese carbon frame (FM015). Compared to my CAAD10, they are nearly identical in geometry and stiffness, except the FM015 is more comfortable and rides like butter. The CAAD10 is not as bomb-proof as people think. It's a great bike for racing and setting PRs, but for longer endurance rides the frame is manageable. I could ride the FM015 for hundreds of miles.

Insert rad pro guy riding an FM015 :

FM015, SRAM rival, alloy wheels, alloy contact points, tires, etc. can probably be had for ~$1500-$1700 (or lower) depending on how internet savvy you are, and if you have the tools. I ordered an FM015 + headset, spacers and extra derailleur hangars for $450 shipped. With ~500 miles on this bike, I can honestly say I like it over the CAAD10 (granted the CAAD10 had 105 and tektro calipers, which I hated). The RS10 wheels it came with were also kinda poop.

I'm starting to like Rival over 105 as well. Here's a pic of my sw8 genero-carbon-bike in san jose :

I might sound pro-chinese-carbon, but I'm not. Both bikes are excellent bikes, and you can't go wrong either way. Just realized this is too much roadie talk for this forum. /flamesuit

FWIW, I've crashed on aluminum, carbon, steel... and surprisingly carbon has the best track record of them all, with steel coming in second. The aluminum did not fare so well. I think it's different for all people, depending on what sort of riding you do (road rides, commuting in heavy urban environment, track racing, etc.)

Last night I got hit by a car on my kilo TT, and it survived the impact just fine.

I just came off china carbon... You're preaching to a tone deaf choir.

P.S. crash impact resistance of frame material should not be a basis you take in consideration when buying a bike... I mean you don't plan to crash right?

Pink "10"... awesome. Tan sidewalls... awesome.

Today was simply great, 65 miles at a spirited effort.

It almost made me do tan sidewalls on mine, but my build has too much white to pull it off.

That's one of sharpest CAAD10 builds I've ever seen.

41 conundrum: won't that big 10 sticker on the chainstay totally clash with your 11s gruppo?

gigantor 12-04-12 07:12 PM

Oh sweet jesus... CAAD10 with SRAM force. Going to be a nice build.

Your china carbon build makes me cry though.
