Today I rode to work. It was lovely and warm, but...

****ing windy by kazbo, on Flickr

I ride south, about 10 miles. Right into steady 20mph winds with up to 50mph gusts. The wind did not let up once. My legs hurt.

But I figure it's good practice for Austin's hills.

craigcraigcraig 03-07-12 09:37 AM

Austin's hills won't be the problem. It is the 110 degree weather that eats you up.

I'm just going to visit, not live there (I know about the summers, I lived there for over 2 years). I'm pretty sure next week it's only going to be in the 60s.

LesterOfPuppets 03-07-12 10:26 AM

Hills are far less demoralizing than wind, AFAIC.

TMonk 03-07-12 11:14 AM

agreed

Thats how today was for me. The wind kept changing, but never to a tail wind except the last quarter mile home. The cross-wind on the trip home too was really scary, kept pushing me around. And unrelated to the wind, some guy almost hit me in a turn lane, and then as I was turning, as he was yelling at me with his windows up. Idiot.

Just Interactive this year (I arrive Friday night, head back home next Wednesday) but the good part is work pays me to go. Last year I stayed for a few days of Music but that's not in the budget this time around.

cc700 03-07-12 02:52 PM

drilled all over my fenders. all over.

jimmytango 03-07-12 03:20 PM

I had a similar commute to Misskaz today. Also, pulling away from a stoplight, I pulled on my left strap (four-month-old Origin8 leather doubles) and snapped both straps. I want to attribute it to my beastly legs, but more than likely it was just ****ty straps.

Today I watched 5 eye surgeries in the OR. It was pretty neat, the made a cut in the cornia and used ultrasound to break up the lens in the eye, and vacuumed it out. Then they put an acrylic replacement lens in.

Then I ate lunch at Bobby's Burger Palace in University City, then rode my two person bike around with my friend at home. Now i'm going to take a nap, eat dinner, and chill. Spring Break <3

Nagrom_ 03-07-12 03:49 PM

Today I looked into prescription cycling sunglasses. Of course the only pair than can handle my prescription is the most expensive pair I can find...

My eyes suck.

hairnet 03-07-12 04:02 PM

same here. I was thinking of getting something like disposable contacts to use on long rides

What's your prescription? Mine is too strong to get disposables, I'd have to get glass.

hairnet 03-07-12 04:14 PM

-2.75 with a slight astigmatism in the left. It was just an idea, I would have to go the doctor anyway for a contacts prescription and ask

Yeah... I wish mine were that good lol. My right is -8.50, and my left is -8.25, both with terrible astigmatism.

If your eyes are that good, you can get a pretty good pair of glasses online for under 200 bucks.
