Today I:
I believe I have secured a job today.
I have shimano R086 shoes. I can't find anything about this online, I guess I will go to a shop.
You can get replacements.
If you take the insole out of your shoe, you'll see that the aluminum threaded thingy can be pried out from the inside of the shoe using a knife or screwdriver. Nicer bike shops will have replacements. Just press the new replacement in and you are good to go. Should cost $1-2.

Still kicking.

Today I had a good 60 mile road ride.

Did you take the insole out and look to see if you could pull the broken one out from inside the shoe? It's not a Shimano part. It's just a generic small part that shops keep for just this situation.

I've had to do this a couple of times. Speedplay cleat screws getting seized into the inserts.....

I had a metal car tire valve cap seize on to the valve stem last year. I literally couldn't get if off with pliers. The entire valve was turning. Had to take it to the shop. The tech said that salt caused it to seize up. And this is why all valve caps should be plastic to avoid this very situation.

Today I dropped my bike off at the local shop to get my wheels trued/tensed. Thank god they like me and said they could get it back to me tomorrow already. They were absolutely flooded today.

It's happened twice for me, it stumps me, because I take real good care of my road shoes and cleats.

Pretty stiff westerly wind today, so I rode my Standard Loop sunwise rather than widdershins.
awesome day.
winter roller riding has really paid off. my commute route doesn't even get me breathing heavy now. also faster. got to fencing practice really early. some of the guys wanted to ride my bike but were afraid of the saddle, despite my assurances that it would not magically castrate them or disappear into an orifice.
also my first day in actual cycling clothing (knickers and jacket). didn't know what i was missing. breathable? windproof? fitted? yes please. oh, and my new friend chamois... . sooo looking forward to throwing clipless into the mix. i did however find out that when wearing lycra my seat will need to point up farther than it does with cotton shorts. a little too much slip-sliding-away. through it all i kept my promise to my wife and wore my helmet like a good boy.
final thought: i love riding really fast at night.

Today I got nailed big time by customs on a package... I don't like how they hold your package as ransom until you pay either.

Today I noticed the Thruster is on sale for 69 smackers! The two on the floor were lookin' kinda worked. I'm guessing both are returns. Luckily I only had $4.00 US so did not buy one.
A kid came into the workshop with a brand-newish wheel off of a thruster recently. I can't quite explain in words how noodly the spokes were, but y'know those crazy-arm blow-up guys outside car dealerships? Yeah, that. I got nailed by 2 cars over the past two summers and if you were to combine how out of true my front wheels were from those incidents, it still wouldn't match up. Screw walmart with a rusty pipe, they're putting people in danger with such shoddy product (not that this is news).
Was asked to apprentice at one of the LBS's that I frequent starting in the fall. Unbelievably stoked. That'll sure put a pep in my step at my ****ty kitchen job. I'll start numbering my days.

looking at 70 degrees in Boulder today. Mountains still have snow on them .5 miles away.
