15 lb-ft moment won't cause a screw to fail, may cause it to pull out due to the lack of strength from the wall. You did not attach the screws to a stud, and that is what cause it to fail, nothing wrong with the bike rack.

I'm sure he will let us all know if it falls off the wall.

Today I spent 2 hours on the trails. Good to be in the dirt and saw 2 coyotes and countless groundhogs.

Sweet lord, we're a paranoid bunch. The bike holder ddeadserious is using is perfectly fine when mounted on a stud. The old shop I used to work at has a bunch of them in their basement that get used every day without incident.

They're not paranoid, just lack knowledge of mechanics.

The head popped off the top screw both times. Holders were attached to the center of a 2x4 wall-stud behind 1 inch of wood paneling with the supplied hardware. Bicycle weight was 30 lbs the first time and 28 lbs the second time. This happened in 2008, within 2 months of purchase.

I took the first one back to Home Depot, got another one and the same thing happened within a few months.

What's your problem? I'm not throwing out speculations, I'm trying to relate what happened to me when I used the same product. I never said don't use it, I said be careful. You know, maybe don't mount it over your bed?

ETA: Here's a picture, I will correct myself, this from the day I mounted it in October 2007. The Specialized HardRock, as pictured, weighed 28 pounds. You can even see the white chalk mark where my roommate marked the center of the stud while I was measuring in the attic.

sweet pedals.

ddeadserious 03-28-12 01:34 PM

Spoonrobot, noting that the head popped off of the screw is kind of an important detail. This means the bike rack is actually fine, and the hardware is subpar. This is an easily solved problem with 50¢ of new hardware and maybe a couple washers.

Nonetheless, I'll be sure to let y'all know if my bike falls off, but I have a feeling it can handle my 16lb bike just fine. I do appreciate the heads up though, I'll definitely keep an eye on it over time.

I apologize, I was unaware I would be cross-examined in detail. It wasn't my intention to make this a big deal, just giving SSFGbros a heads up on my experience.

I think that's the loaner saddle that most shops have?

Leukybear 03-28-12 03:02 PM

Today I spent the morning at stanford catching up with a old high school buddy of mine who's taking a doctoral fellowship there. Beautiful campus.

Yup, a test saddle; doesn't matter through. Shops often let them go on the cheap when they get another set from fizik. There's other test colors too like orange and yellow.

today the electric company was out back replacing the porcelain cable guides on the power poles because they are like 100 years old. I got to keep six of them. They're big because they're off a large distribution line
