I immediately thought of Tobias' and Lindsay's counseling sessions from Arrested Development.

They really need to make that first session like 3 hours long.

Tonight, I had dinner with a girl that im really into. Not sure if she feels the same way. She is hard to read sometimes.

Also, this:

Today I had a fun road ride, 40 more miles until 1,000 for the month.

Jaytron 03-27-12 08:46 PM

Today I left my helmet on the train. Talk about absentminded today. Yay for a rainy, headwind filled, helmetless ride home.

gigantor 03-27-12 08:59 PM

Sucks Jay :(

Today I got my state tax return. Federal is taking forever. I also did a fun ride (15 miles, 2K ft climbing).

Then I got home and checked the state of my rear cog(s), cassette, and chain. No maintenance whatsoever in 1500 miles looks really, really, really bad. I'd post photos but it's too embarrassing. There was enough gunk on the entire drive-train to fill half of a small styro-foam cup. I'm pretty sure my bike will ride much faster now.

Next purchase : repair stand.

I've been there... I wish you the best.

Today I shaved the beard off, only the mustache is left. Wind on my face feels weird.

Jandro 03-28-12 04:15 AM

Today I: am missing home. Tokyo is cool and all but I want my bike, my lady friend, and my bed. Also Mexican food... it's ****ing impossible to find a good burrito here.

nite train 03-28-12 06:22 AM

jimmyt, tried to pm you some support, but i am not eligible for those sort of shenanigans yet. need to get the post count up. good luck

ddeadserious 03-28-12 08:50 AM

Today(well, yesterday), I mounted a bike hanger, and subsequently my bike, on the wall of my new apt.

Today I am just dragging along. No ambition to ride road, so I guess I'll throw the dj'r around some instead.

Be careful with those. I've had two fall off the wall while holding bikes.

LesterOfPuppets 03-28-12 11:35 AM

Guessing you didn't find a stud.

LOL at being in tokyo and missing burritos. How long you been there? It takes me at least a month to start missing foods from home.

I screwed into a stud and it feels stable, I think it'll be okay. Thanks though!

I did.

It's a problem of poor materials and leverage. When you put the bicycle onto the holder, the holder will flex up and down a littler bit. If you do this 2-3 times a day you're flexing two smallish screws with the 20+ pounds on the end of a 9+ inch lever, which could lead to problems.

Not saying it will, just that it can, so I wanted to give a warning. :thumb:

I don't like the looks of that holder. When I was at my parents' house I used storage hooks to hold my bikes from the ceiling by the wheels.

I cant find the pics of it

Yeah, seconding this. It's super... bouncy. We have that exact holder rigged up to a support pole in our basement to use as a makeshift bike stand, and it's so bouncy as to be almost unusable, and it has gotten looser over time.

You can also use them in the wall rather than ceiling to hold bikes. It works well.

Hmmm, shame to hear how lame two-arm holders are. We have one in a junk box at the shop I'm at part time. Was thinking about using it as storage for on-deck repairs, cuz space is tight there, but I guess I'll pass on that.

The manager wants to put an old Raleigh Sports up on display cuz he can't bring himself to sell it for some reason, so maybe I'll use it to get that bike out of the way.

How do you know that a moment of 15 lb-ft will cause a screw to fail?

I'd say if you are in a stud you should be all good.

Screwing it into a 2x4 on your deck would probably be OK. Maybe get some longer screws?

Scrodzilla 03-28-12 12:52 PM

Sweet lord, we're a paranoid bunch. The bike holder ddeadserious is using is perfectly fine when mounted on a stud. The old shop I used to work at has a bunch of them in their basement that get used every day without incident.

Because it happened to me. Twice.

I'd say so too, but I just wanted to give a warning about my experience.
