How does one get into being a mechanic?

I'm signed up for the Stanford CS101 course, but I'm pretty annoyed with them. It was supposed to start months ago and they've kept pushing it back... Now it's starting April 23 -- which is the day I leave for a 12-day trip to Europe. Sigh.

I know, you get what you pay for (which is $0 in this case) but I'm still a little bummed.

This past weekend I made arrangements to look at and most likely buy a Peugeot Corbier on CL. Price wasn't bad, and I was looking for a townie/baby mover project.
Texted the seller to let her know I was on my way (Queens to BK), got a reply "Oh i actually just sold the bike. Sorry!". FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

That is a bummer. I just jumped into it last Thursday. Went click, click, click. Got a notice about "this class already started but you can go for it if ya want. " I just looked again at the "Course Content" and I guess It's in week 6 of 7, so I might have 2 weeks to do 7 weeks worth of class. I couldn't find info on when weeks start and end, however. The syllabus doesn't have actual dates on it.

I have to assume this class started about a month and a half ago, unless they're real sketchy about the schedule, like if they're shooting video as they go and this class has been going on for months.

Anyways the format is great for short attention span types. All the youtube clips are 5 minutes or less it seems and most have a multiple choice question or two afterwards. Some have a Python interpreter embedded in the webpage where you write a code snippet and it gets evaluated as to whether it will give the proper results.

Well, I can only be so bummed about the fact that I'm going to Brussels and Brugge and Amsterdam for 12 days. :D

Try python may be a good place to start

I mean the Udacity course has an interpreter built in to the course webpages. You type in your code for the problem, run it, debug it then hit Submit. Then it says "right, or wrong" Pretty sweet setup.

First day working in seattle, beautiful weather so did a 10 mile loop at lunch, would have loved to just keep going, finding a place to sit outside with a nice brew, but duty calls.
