That sucks :( The most direct route to work has me dodging more doors and mindless drivers than I have ever had to before. I need to take another route before I do get hurt.

today my friend linked me to a CL ad for a 24" Panasonic mtb.http://images.craigslist.org/5Ne5Lb5...2e369c130c.jpg I will go there tomorrow because I am sick in bed today

Oh great. ABC News has determined that the bike appears to be "what some people refer to as a fixed-gear bike". Because that's oh so relevant. I also find it interesting that they are focusing so much on the truck. What about the person that opened the car door?

hairnet 10-05-12 11:38 AM

just as clueless and will never get it until they ride

Nagrom_ 10-05-12 11:52 AM

Might have been a valid point if he was brakeless, but he wasn't so its just journalism at that point.

jimmytango 10-05-12 11:54 AM

That sucks Kaz. I hope that the person who opened the door feels like ****, and has some sort of repercussions from this.

It makes me jealous that there are people in this world that can just drive to your shop and buy stuff.

HA! Maybe if the biker had just gone ahead and hit the door -- then died, of course, otherwise it's just another dooring. God I wish I wasn't so callous about this, but let's face it, cars always win.

LesterOfPuppets 10-05-12 12:40 PM

Last night I rode with a headlamp actually on my head. It ruled. Hopefully I'll have that on for every night ride from here 'til eternity.

It doesn't matter if he was fixed or not, and it doesn't matter if he had brakes or not. What matters is that someone lost his life, people lost a family member and friend, because some ******* couldn't check the mirror before opening the door.

indeed.

people could just care less. last year i had a police captain tell me if i wanted to ride my bike in the street not to complain if i got hit because drivers have enough to worry about without bicycles being "in the way".

Leukybear 10-05-12 02:05 PM

Today I finally got around to do that pedaling room thing. See if you can find me.

Yep, and that's the audience ABC News, et al, are pandering to.

Well that's b/w pichures & words. It went a couple hours w/o pictures while I was at work. Just polishing up the page to make it worthy of your eyes takes time aha.

As usual, my misfortunes pale next to what I read in this thread.

Today I saw that my rear tire was flat when I woke up -- first time that's happened with this tire and tube in almost 1700 miles. Thankfully, the tube held air long enough to get me to work, but when there I discovered that my spare tube had a small hole worn into it by rubbing against stuff in my seat bag (note to self: wrap spare tubes in socks from now on), and that the unopened tube of glue in my patch kit had dried out because it had tiny splits at the end. Great.

striknein 10-05-12 02:17 PM

I nearly just started a holy war, instead I'm going to say it's unfortunate that someone lost a life on their bike. We should all leave the color commentary to A&S though.

Scrodzilla 10-05-12 04:43 PM
