I really want to pull the trigger on a pair to widen the wardrobe but the price makes me hesitant to do some toe dipping with a pair without trying them on in person. No dealers around here and I don't head back to the bay until Christmas.

So my team kits are top of the line Pearl Izumi stuff and the chamois and material of the Rapha bibs is just better. The chamois and bib material are way more comfortable. I could tell the second I tried them on. Then I wore them for the 45mi ride home, and they felt amazing.

I can't really compare to Castelli stuff, as I don't own any of their stuff, but Rapha does top the best that Pearl Izumi has to offer.

I'm back from Chicago. Had fun.

On the way to the airport I sat next to a guy with a mission workshop bag. Then while at a grill in the airport I sat next to a guy who was close friends with the owner of Mission Workshop. Funny day.

ALSO - I had the pleasure of being in a Chicago rainstorm. It was insane.

That storm yesterday was awesome.

Decided to convert a Peugeot mixte that I found on CL to a SS.

RGNY 08-05-12 04:08 PM

wife rides a Dutch city bike. considering a Linus Gaston 1 (due to flip/flop hub, easily changed gearing ) for coffee runs together and looking forward to lazy fall days. she's really scared of riding street and i'm trying to build confidence.

cheaper option is the BD Windsor Essex, but waiting to hear back if the cog is able to be swapped out. would go w/ the BD in that case, as it's full cro-mo, vs. the Linus' hi-ten w/ cro-mo downtube.

For what it's worth, the chamois on my bike shorts are:
Pearl Izumi (mid-grade) - passable, not super great
Descente (high-grade) - pretty good
Hincapie (high grade) - really great, by far my favorite

Obviously, the fact that my Pearl Izumi shorts cost less was a factor in their lower quality overall.

I just put a clamp-on kickstand on a Fuji SST 1.0. What the **** is wrong with people?

Welcome to working with bikes: "Wait, it doesn't come with a kickstand?!" has bumped it's way into my top five most annoying things to hear at any given time.

That's seriously like ordering a well-done filet mignon at a high-end steakhouse though.

there's a crazy thread on kickstands.

plodding, but LOL-worthy:

Spoonrobot 08-05-12 06:34 PM

Today I rode my first freewheeled bike in about 8 months. Very noisy, a lot less responsive and not nearly as fast-feeling as I expected. :(

Dannihilator 08-05-12 06:51 PM

Today, other than going on a street ride, I just took it easy and worked on the 930.

Which one even fits that--a rear triangle kickstand? I once sold a ~$2,000 carbon hardtail mtb to an older guy who requested a handlebar basket for his dog to ride in. It was the worst add-on I can ever remember installing.

jimmytango 08-05-12 08:04 PM

I forget the model, but it's a seatstay mounted clamp-on. Pain in the ass.

Sup hoes. I'm back, and 1500 richer.

AKA, Scrod! I have money for you!

jimmytango 08-05-12 08:26 PM

Similar, yes.

Since I've started eating better, drinking less, and riding more, I've lost 10lbs. ****ing awesome.

Yeah I work on the Maps team at Google.

No, my sister didn't make these. She bought them from an Etsy store. I love them!

Today I watched the USAF Thunderbirds. That ruled, obviously.
