I would be completely shelled if that was the case.

I don't really like riding in the day, new jersey has way too many ****ing idiots driving tahoes who can't keep their cars between the lines. My sqrl and my child keep me busy untill around 1 everynight and I have to be up for work early so I end up keeping my rides under two hours.

One night I was listening to music riding no handed down the middle of the street an a van came behind me and blared the horn so close to me I almost ruined my bibs.

So, what horrors lurk in this "trollheim" that normal full can't see?

i prefer riding at night. cars just ignore me vs. swerving into oncoming traffic because i'm obviously going to swerve in front of them to satisfy my deathwish....

nope, not this time, although I have had to redo some stucco on my balcony before.

I ignored the gunshots, but then with all the sirens a while later, I figured someone got hit.

Figured right.

edit: I was so distraught I went and made grilled cheese sandwiches.

Dannihilator 08-10-12 09:13 PM

Yikes, don't get that here in my neck of NJ.

I'm about three miles from one of the highest murder rate areas in the nation.
I'm assuming what just happened is spill off from east oakland.

I live too close.

Dannihilator 08-10-12 09:45 PM

I usually hear gun from mid fall to early spring, but that is to do with hunting.

Dude, I know the feeling. I grew up at 21st and Washington in Gary. There's a reason I got out of there ASAP. I never got hit, personally, but it sucked to get woke up at two AM by gunfire and sirens. Glad you're ok.

Tonight I got smoked on my way home trying to keep up with two guys riding fixed that knew what they were doing. I'm pretty fast because I distance foot run alot and ride road regularly (well, rode road regularly), but I still have no skill on fixed. These guys busted through weekend traffic on Broadway in midtown NYC like it wasn't there and stopped brakeless on a dime into track stands effortlessly. Meanwhile, I stumbled along with a Fred-ness on a bike that probably cost more than both of theirs combined. Sometimes I just wanna cover my bike's logos with electrical tape.

#embarrassed.

That street will always be significant to me. It's not always been that bad.
Flash back a decade or two and the neighborhood was a far cry in normality compared to today. I used to go to school in downtown Oakland via bus with my grandpa after he got his license taken away by the DMV for poor vision and eventually by myself. I would ride the 40/ 40L which would always have driver shift changes at the intersection with Seminary as the Oakland bus yard was only a couple blocks away which usually took a few minutes and gave me time to browse the area. Slowly businesses went away and windows became boarded up. Now it's just a mess of crime and sideshows.

tonythomas 08-10-12 11:10 PM

wow.. that Bridgestone is bad ass! The seat vs. bars angle makes my sciatic scream just looking at it though.

You'll need to ask Tom Stormcrowe for access to Trollheim.

Don't bother, it sucks.
